Vespa Scooters

Vespa scooters are a brand of Italian luxury scooters and mopeds manufactured by Piaggio. The name Vespa means wasp in Italian, and it reflects the distinctive shape and sound of these vehicles. Vespa scooters have been around since 1946, and they have become a symbol of style, elegance and freedom.

History of Vespa:
Vespa scooters were born out of the need for affordable and practical transportation in post-war Italy. Enrico Piaggio, the son of the founder of Piaggio & Co. S.p.A., commissioned aeronautical engineer Corradino D’Ascanio to design a simple and comfortable scooter that could appeal to the masses. D’Ascanio, who disliked motorcycles, created a revolutionary vehicle that had a pressed steel unibody, a front fairing, a flat floorboard, a rear-mounted engine and a twist-grip gear change. The first model, the Vespa 98, was launched in 1946 and it was an instant success. Over the years, Vespa scooters evolved into different models and variants, such as the Vespa 125, the Vespa 150, the Vespa GS, the Vespa Rally, the Vespa PX, the Vespa ET, the Vespa LX and the Vespa GTS. Vespa scooters also gained popularity worldwide, thanks to their appearance in several Hollywood movies such as Roman Holiday, La Dolce Vita, Quadrophenia and The Talented Mr. Ripley. Today, Vespa scooters are still produced in Italy and in other countries such as India, Vietnam and Indonesia.
