Tata Sierra EV vs MG ZS EV: Price, Features, and Performance Compared

The Tata Sierra EV has entered the electric SUV market, drawing attention with its extensive features, modern design, strong performance, and advanced safety technologies. The MG ZS EV, one of the earliest and most popular models in this segment, is known for its premium interior, comprehensive equipment, and practical range. With the arrival of the Sierra EV, buyers now have a new option to consider. This comparison examines how the two models stack up in key areas.

Key Highlights

  • The Tata Sierra EV starts at Rs 80,000 more than the MG ZS EV and offers larger battery packs.
  • The Tata Sierra EV is bigger in every dimension and provides a more spacious cabin and boot.
  • Tata Sierra EV delivers more power and a longer claimed range than the MG ZS EV.
  • Both SUVs offer Level-2 ADAS, but the Sierra EV adds a 540-degree camera system.

Price and Value Comparison

The Tata Sierra EV starts at a price roughly Rs 80,000 higher than the MG ZS EV. For top-end trims, the price gap widens to Rs 5.25 lakh, with the ZS EV being more affordable. However, the Sierra EV offers larger battery packs, more equipment, and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option, which the ZS EV does not provide.

The MG ZS EV also features a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription. This option lowers the initial cost to Rs 13 lakh plus Rs 4.5 per km for the base variant. This makes the ZS EV more accessible for cost-conscious buyers, while the Sierra EV must be purchased outright.

Dimensions and Design

The Tata Sierra EV is longer, wider, and taller than the MG ZS EV. This larger size could result in a more spacious cabin and a boot that is up to 174 litres bigger than the ZS EV. The Sierra EV’s height also gives it a stronger road presence.

In terms of color choices, the Sierra EV offers seven shades, including unique options like Rishikesh Rapids and Nainital Nocturne. The MG ZS EV is available in four colors, with only one red option and the rest in monochrome tones.

Performance and Battery Options

The Tata Sierra EV comes with two battery packs: 63 kWh and 75 kWh. Both are larger than the MG ZS EV’s 50.3 kWh battery. The Sierra EV is available in both single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and dual-motor AWD configurations. The ZS EV is offered only with front-wheel drive (FWD).

The Sierra EV’s base version produces 61 PS more than the MG ZS EV. Even the lowest-powered Sierra EV variant outperforms the ZS EV by 32 PS and 35 Nm. The Sierra EV also claims a longer range. However, for urban use and moderate driving, the ZS EV still provides adequate power.
