About Hero Bikes

The Hero brand, which has come to symbolize two-wheelers throughout the region, originated in India. The adventure started in 1956 when Hero Cycles was founded in Ludhiana, Punjab, by the Munjal brothers under the direction of Brijmohan Lall Munjal. Their first priority was making bicycles, which were well-liked right once since they were reasonably priced and dependable.

Hero Cycles attempted to enter the motorcycle market in the late 1970s and early 1980s as India's economy started to open up and customer demand for motorised two-wheelers rose. Hero Honda Motors Limited was founded in 1983 as a result of Hero Cycles and Honda, the Japanese automaker, forming a strategic alliance. Through the introduction of reasonably priced and fuel-efficient bikes, this partnership completely transformed the Indian motorcycle industry.

Hero Honda: A Game-Changing Partnership

The Hero Honda CD100, which debuted in 1985 and is renowned for its outstanding dependability and fuel efficiency, signalled Hero Honda's entry into the market. The brand's emphasis on minimum maintenance and economical fuel usage was encapsulated in the tagline "Fill it – Shut it – Forget it." Hero Honda established itself as the biggest motorcycle manufacturer in the world throughout the decades that followed by creating well-known models like the Splendor, Passion, and CBZ.

Dissolution of the Hero Honda Joint Venture

In December 2010, Hero and Honda dissolved their joint venture amicably after over 26 years of a fruitful collaboration. Hero's goal to grow internationally and broaden its product line and Honda's wish to establish a separate presence in the Indian market were the driving forces behind this choice. In 2011, the Hero Group, led by Munjal, rebranded the business as Hero MotoCorp Ltd. after acquiring Honda's 26 percent ownership.

Hero MotoCorp set out on its own with ambition and conviction. The company launched models under its own name and underwent a major rebranding, which included a new logo. Hero made significant investments in R&D without Honda's technical assistance, setting up the Hero Tech Center Germany in Munich and the Hero Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur, India.

Key Models and Innovations

  • Hero Splendor: Even post-rebranding, the Splendor continued to dominate the commuter motorcycle segment, embodying simplicity, reliability, and fuel efficiency.
  • Hero Xtreme: A sportier offering that catered to the youth market, combining performance and style.
  • Hero Karizma: Revamped in its new avatar, the Karizma appealed to premium and performance-focused riders.

Sustainability and Electric Mobility

Hero MotoCorp has dabbled in electric mobility in addition to conventional internal combustion engines. The company invested in Ather Energy, a cutting-edge electric vehicle start-up, and unveiled electric scooter prototypes. Hero MotoCorp demonstrated its dedication to mobility solutions that are ready for the future in 2022 when it announced the launch of its electric scooter and motorbike sub-brand, Vida.

Worldwide Growth

Hero MotoCorp has set its sights on growing outside of India. It started exporting to markets in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America, among others. Hero bikes were popular in these areas because they were inexpensive, dependable, and had little maintenance. The corporation has further expanded its worldwide reach by setting up manufacturing facilities in Bangladesh, Colombia, and India.

Achievements and Milestones

World’s Largest Two-Wheeler Manufacturer: Hero MotoCorp has held the title of the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer by unit sales for over a decade.

Stylish commuter bike
The Glamour XTEC is a stylish commuter bike with a modern appeal. The LED headlight is bright and adds to its premium look. The bike offers excellent comfort, even on long rides, and the seat is well-padded. The performance is satisfactory for a 125cc bike, though the pickup could be better. It’s a great option for those who want a balance of technology and fuel efficiency.

Feature-rich bike
Hero Glamour XTEC delivers a smooth riding experience with great mileage. The digital console with Bluetooth integration is very useful, especially for navigation and call alerts. The engine runs quietly and feels reliable for city commutes. The suspension works well on most roads, but the rear brakes could offer better feedback. Overall, it’s a smart, feature-rich bike for the urban rider.

Good but high maintenance cost
The Glamour XTEC is a practical and stylish bike for everyday use. Its standout features, like the digital cluster and i3S technology, set it apart in the 125cc segment. The ride quality is comfortable, and the engine is responsive. However, the slightly higher maintenance cost might be a concern for some. Despite this, it’s an excellent choice for those looking for a tech-savvy, fuel-efficient commuter bike.

Can be better
I’ve been riding the Glamour XTEC for a few months, and it’s a reliable performer. The bike’s design is sleek and modern, and the build quality is solid. The mileage is decent, and the i3S technology is a smart addition for better fuel efficiency. However, the power delivery could be smoother at higher speeds. For city commutes and occasional long rides, it’s a practical and budget-friendly bike.

mix of style, comfort, and performance.
The Xtreme 160R 4V is one of the best bikes in its class. The engine offers great performance with minimal vibrations, and the ride quality is comfortable. However, I felt the fuel tank capacity could be a bit larger for long rides. It’s a fantastic bike for those who want a mix of style, comfort, and performance.
