BMW India will launch the first all-electric Mini Cooper SE in India on February 24. This will be the second electric car in India from BMW after the recently launched iX electric SUV. The BMW iX price in India is Rs 1.15 crore, which makes it out of reach of most people, but the response has been overwhelming for the German company.
The company has said in a statement that they will be launching more electric BMW cars in India in the future but this new Mini will be for a niche group of buyers. For those of you wanting to buy one, there is bad news that only 30 models of this electric SE will be sold in India and all of them have been booked already.
This goes onto show that people in India are gradually opting for luxury electric cars and the market will continue to grow in the future.

Here are all the details you need to know about the Cooper SE:
The SE is near identical to its ICE sibling the 3-door Cooper, but has subtle differentiating factors, such as the blanked-out grille with a yellow strip housing the stylish ‘E’ badge, new side scuttles with integrated LED indicators, yellow coloured ORVMs, new 17-inch, electric power spoke alloy wheels, embossed ‘E’ motive on the charging cover and the ‘E’ badge on the boot.
Other than the aforementioned changes, the SE retains the iconic, oval-shaped LED headlight clusters with circular LED DRLs, scoop in the hood and signature ‘Union Jack’ LED taillights.
Inside too the yellow theme continues, while the overall dash layout remains the same as the ICE version. The changes include a 5.5-inch digital instrument display, Nappa leather seat upholstery, connected car features and dual-zone auto climate control.
The new electric Mini carries all the features of the gasoline powered Cooper S like, 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, electric sunroof, ambient lighting, electric parking brake and others.
The company had launched this car globally in 2020, but due to the Covid-19 induced semi-conductor chip shortage, its India launch got delayed.
The Cooper SE gets a 32.6kWh battery pack mounted under the floor, making 184hp and 270nm of instant torque. It has a claimed 0-100km/h time of 7.3 seconds, while the claimed range will be around 270 kilometres.
The electric Cooper S gets four different colour options with black roof- British Racing Green, Midnight Black, White Silver and Moonwalk Grey.

The company will announce the prices on February 24 but the expected 2022 Mini Cooper SE price in India will be around Rs 50 lakh because of it being a CBU (Completely Built Unit), which will mean that the car won’t have any rivals in this price bracket, thus, making it a unique offering.
Since, the pre-bookings had already started in December 2021 and all 30 units of the first batch have been booked already, the company may look to bring more of this small and quirky car to the Indian shores in the future.
