EVs with BaaS pricing in India: MG dominates the list, followed by Tata Punch EV
Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) is reshaping EV affordability in India by separating battery cost from vehicle price. MG’s Comet, ZS EV and Windsor spearhead this model, with the Tata Punch EV now joining the list.

Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) is making electric vehicles (EVs) more affordable in India by allowing buyers to subscribe to batteries instead of purchasing them upfront. This subscription model reduces the initial ex-showroom price, making EV ownership accessible to more people, though it does increase running costs slightly. Several manufacturers now offer BaaS pricing to attract buyers at lower entry points.

Market Outlook
MG Motor currently leads the BaaS segment in India with several models. Indian manufacturers like Tata and Maruti are expanding their BaaS offerings, and Toyota will soon join with the Ebella EV. More EVs are expected to adopt BaaS pricing in the future. Buyers should consult dealerships for detailed pricing and financing options, as BaaS structures can vary by brand.
Conclusion
As MG’s BaaS-led EV range and the Tata Punch EV’s rental-based battery model gain traction, Indian buyers finally get a flexible, lower-risk path into electric mobility. By slashing upfront prices and shifting battery costs to usage-based subscriptions, these EVs make long-term ownership more accessible, potentially accelerating mainstream EV adoption across diverse budgets and driving habits.
