India’s passenger vehicle market saw continued growth in March 2026, with most major carmakers reporting higher sales compared to the same period last year. Maruti Suzuki remained the country’s top carmaker, while Tata Motors held its position ahead of Mahindra for second place. Renault and Nissan posted the highest year-on-year increases in sales among all manufacturers.

Maruti Suzuki reported domestic sales of 1,69,428 units in March 2026, a 10.27 percent increase year-on-year. The compact segment, including models like the Baleno, Swift, Dzire, WagonR, and Celerio, contributed 71,789 units. Maruti Suzuki’s SUVs, such as the Brezza, Grand Vitara, Fronx, and eVitara, accounted for 71,356 units, reflecting strong demand across segments.
Tata Motors secured second place with domestic sales of 66,971 units, marking a 29 percent rise over March 2025. This figure also represents a 19 percent increase from February 2026’s 56,447 units. Tata’s SUV models, including the Nexon and Punch, remained key contributors. The company’s CNG and electric vehicle range also supported overall volumes. Recent launches like the Sierra, Punch facelift, and petrol variants of the Harrier and Safari have driven growth in bookings and deliveries.
Mahindra reported domestic sales of 60,272 units in March 2026, up 25 percent from 48,048 units in March 2025. Sales rose 13 percent from February’s 53,281 units. Mahindra’s SUV-led lineup, with models such as the Scorpio-N, Thar, and Thar Roxx, continued to drive volumes. New models like the XUV 7XO and XEV 9e have also begun deliveries.
Hyundai recorded domestic sales of 55,064 units in March 2026, a 6.3 percent increase over the previous year. The Creta, the Venue, and the i20 were significant contributors. Hyundai’s quarterly domestic sales reached a record 166,578 units in Q4 FY2025-26.
Toyota reported domestic sales of 35,125 units, up 23.8 percent year-on-year. Key models included the Innova Hycross, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Fortuner. Toyota also revealed its first EV for India, the Urban Cruiser EBella.
Other Carmakers and Notable Trends
Kia’s domestic sales reached 29,112 units, a 14.5 percent increase year-on-year and a 16 percent rise from February. Growth was led by the new Seltos and steady demand for the Sonet. Interest in the Carens Clavis and its electric version also contributed.
Skoda reported 7,906 units sold, a 6.8 percent year-on-year increase. The Kylaq remained its top-selling model, with the Slavia also contributing. The new Kushaq, launched late in March, is expected to boost future sales.
Honda sold 7,585 units in March 2026, a 5 percent increase year-on-year and a notable rise from February’s 4,774 units. The City, Amaze, and Elevate formed Honda’s core lineup. The company is testing its first battery electric vehicle, the Honda 0 Alpha, ahead of its launch.
JSW MG Motor recorded 6,528 units sold, a 19 percent year-on-year increase. The Windsor EV remained a top seller. The company recently introduced the Majestor diesel SUV and announced price increases of up to 2 percent for most models and up to 7 percent for higher-end offerings, citing rising input costs.
Renault achieved domestic sales of 5,046 units, a 77 percent year-on-year increase and a 44 percent rise from February. The Kiger and Triber accounted for 63 percent of March sales. Deliveries of the new-generation Duster will begin in April.
Nissan reported 4,408 units sold in March 2026, up 98 percent from February and a 151 percent increase over March 2025. The Gravite MPV and Magnite drove this growth, marking Nissan’s highest monthly domestic sales in five years.
