April 2026 Sales Overview
Motorcycles contributed most to the surge, with sales rising 30.6% to 11,38,452 units. Scooters also performed well, growing 26.2% to 6,91,993 units. Moped sales increased by 9% to 42,246 units. The commuter and entry-level segments drove much of the motorcycle demand, as buyers prioritized affordability, fuel efficiency, and utility.
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) noted that the industry maintained momentum from the second half of FY2025–26. Despite concerns about higher commodity prices linked to disruptions in West Asia, two-wheelers posted high double-digit growth in April.
Leading Manufacturers and Segment Performance
Hero MotoCorp led the market with 532,433 units sold in April 2026. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India followed with 484,972 units, and TVS Motor Company secured third place with 348,545 units. Hero's leadership came mainly from motorcycle sales. Honda's numbers were supported by strong scooter sales, while TVS benefited from both scooter and motorcycle sales.

Market Trends and Outlook
Motorcycles are rising faster than scooters, signaling strong demand from mass and commuter buyers. The coming months may remain stable if rural cash flow holds and financing conditions do not worsen. However, SIAM highlighted risks from West Asia conflicts, which could push up commodity prices and affect both input costs and retail prices. If petrol prices rise, two-wheelers with high fuel efficiency may become even more attractive to buyers.
