June 2025 saw India’s car market face a slowdown, but Maruti Suzuki remained the top seller while Mahindra gained ground.

The Indian car market can never be stagnant, and this is evident in June 2025. A total of 3.13 lakh passenger cars were sold, but still, the Indian market experienced a notable slowdown with a 6.4% decline when compared to the previous year's data, i.e., June 2024. The month of June 2025 remains down in terms of car sales. Numerous auto experts believe that the lack of holiday seasons, the arrival of the monsoon, and the start of classes are the reasons for these sales, which all contribute to a lowered level of consumer sentiment.

However, we can also see the sudden drop in the southern part of India. Major big players in OEM, like Maruti, Tata Motors, and Hyundai, have reported lower sales, and only a few brands have been able to catch up to the growth through launching new models.

Maruti Suzuki Sales drop by 13.3%; Mahindra retains its upward trajectory

The Indian car market leader, Maruti Suzuki, is likely to face a sales decline of 13.3% in June 2025. The sales went to 1.18 lakh units from 1.37 lakh units. In the same month last year. Hyundai Motor India also faces a backlash due to the sales drop of 12.1%. Mahindra, for instance, continued its upward trajectory, driven by strong SUV sales and growing acceptance of its electric vehicle lineup.

Skoda Auto India has shown impressive growth by selling 5,014 units in June 2025 when compared to the same month in the previous year. The best-selling car from the brand was the Skoda Kodiaq, which opened a new door to enter and capture the entry-level market and helped the brand to escalate through Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets. The carmaker registered an impressive 134% growth in H1 2025. It is surprising to see the European models doing 1k volumes monthly compared to other OEM brands.
