To mark India’s 79th Independence Day, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India together completed the NH-19 corridor program on the Agra-Etawah-Chakeri section in Uttar Pradesh. Furthermore, both brands have launched the safety program “Surakshit Sadkein, Surakshit Bharat” to keep India’s roads free from fatalities. Here’s everything you need to know about the program.

A Road Safety Model

The Zero Fatality Corridor program has emerged as a pioneering road safety model, implementing the 4Es of traffic safety: Engineering, Emergency care, Enforcement, and Education. Such a road safety initiative helps the organization to address gaps and follow targeted interventions to remove those gaps. The collaboration has enhanced infrastructure safety while spreading awareness among young-generation drivers and riders.

For many, this translates into safer journeys and fewer risks on one of the country’s busiest freight and passenger corridors. Both carmakers have aligned themselves with community welfare, positioning this initiative as a larger vision under Surakshit Sadkein, Surakshit Bharat. As a result, the initiative has reduced fatal road crashes by 7.5% compared to the previous years.

Independence Day with a Purpose

The program was launched in November 2022. This was taken into consideration to target India’s most risky corridors to drive through. To improve the circumstances, the brands introduce engineering safety improvements, deploy electronic enforcement working tools, and install locally relevant care centers. Moreover, the brand has also taken help and worked closely with the National Highways Authority of India.

It took nearly eight decades of India’s freedom to reaffirm the freedom of safe mobility for citizens. Under this program, several safety upgrades, such as crash barriers, speed calming methods, and improved pedestrian areas, were installed. The brand also provides 300+ first responders trained in basic life support.

Conclusion

Škoda Auto Volkswagen India’s completion of the Zero Fatality Corridor project on NH-19 is a milestone that redefines corporate social responsibility in the automotive sphere. SAVWIPL's collaboration with the SaveLIFE Foundation is more than just a corporate social responsibility initiative; it demonstrates the evolving role of automotive brands in influencing safer, smarter travel for millions.
