Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the leading automaker in the country, has reported exceptional sales figures for January 2024, reaching new heights in the domestic passenger vehicle segment. The company's strategic focus on Utility Vehicles (UVs) has proven to be a game-changer, contributing significantly to this success.
Stellar Performance in Domestic Passenger Vehicle Sales
In the domestic passenger vehicle segment, Maruti Suzuki witnessed robust growth, with sales surging to 1,66,802 units in January 2024, a remarkable increase from the 1,47,348 units recorded in the same month of the previous year. The overall monthly sales, including domestic sales, exports, and sales to other OEMs, reached an unprecedented 1,99,364 units.

Breakdown of Domestic Passenger Vehicle Sales
- Mini Segment: The Mini segment, featuring models like Alto and S-Presso, experienced a decline with sales dropping to 15,849 units in January 2024. This downward trend reflects a YTD decrease, signaling a shift in consumer preferences.
- Compact Segment: Despite a year-over-year growth to 76,533 units in January 2024, the Compact segment faced challenges on a YTD basis, registering a decline to 6,86,544 units. Models such as Baleno, Celerio, DZire, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR contribute to this segment.
- Mid-Size Segment: Maruti Suzuki's mid-size offering, the Ciaz, witnessed a decrease in sales to 363 units in January 2024, down from 1,000 units in the same month the previous year.
- UV Segment: The UV segment, featuring popular models like Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, G Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, S-Cross, and XL6, emerged as the star performer. Sales in this segment soared to 62,038 units in January 2024, marking a substantial increase from the 35,353 units sold in January 2023.

Future Prospects and Recent Updates
Maruti Suzuki's recent introduction of a mild-hybrid engine in the Brezza is expected to further boost sales in the UV segment, reinforcing the company's commitment to innovation and meeting evolving market demands.
Other Highlights in Passenger Vehicle Sales
The Eeco van experienced improved demand, contributing to a total of 12,019 units sold in January 2024. The overall passenger vehicle sales in domestic markets reflected a significant month-over-month increase, reaching 1,66,802 units.
Overall Sales Performance
The total domestic sales, combining passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles, stood at 1,70,214 units in January 2024, showcasing a considerable rise from 1,51,367 units in January 2023.

Maruti Suzuki's total domestic sales (PV+CV+OEM) surged to 1,75,443 units in January 2024, with total exports witnessing a marked increase to 23,921 units.
