Mahindra Car Sales in January 2024 Shows 31% YoY Growth

Mahindra, one of India's leading automotive manufacturers, has reported robust sales figures for January 2024, showcasing a remarkable 31% year-on-year (YoY) growth. The company sold 43,068 units during the month, a significant jump from the 32,915 units sold in January 2023.
Mahindra SUV Sales Boosted in January 2024
In January 2024, the entirety of Mahindra's passenger vehicle sales was contributed by its SUV range. The SUV lineup, featuring popular models like XUV700, Scorpio, Bolero, and Thar, witnessed a stellar performance, overshadowing car and van sales, which experienced a 100% YoY decline from 125 units in January 2023 to zero units in January 2024. On a year-to-date (YTD) basis, SUV sales registered a 30% growth, reaching 3,76,832 units compared to 2,90,764 units in the same period of 2023.

Car and van sales, however, saw a 99% YTD decline to a mere 13 units, sharply contrasting with the 2,134 units sold in the April-January 2023 period. On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, SUV sales showed growth, reaching 35,174 units, including 3 units of cars and vans, as opposed to 35,171 units in December 2023.
Mahindra Exports Face Decline
On the international front, Mahindra's exports witnessed a down turn both YoY and YTD, dropping by 41% and 22%, respectively. Only 1,746 units were shipped in January 2024, compared to 3,009 units in January 2023. YTD exports fell to 21,551 units in the April-January 2024 period from 27,742 units exported in the same period last year.
Recent Launches and Pricing Updates
Mahindra introduced the 2024 XUV700 with enhanced features and increased luxury for both drivers and passengers. The model aims to intensify competition with rivals like the Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus. Additionally, Mahindra implemented price adjustments in January 2024. Models such as Thar, Scorpio N, Scorpio Classic, and XUV700 saw price hikes, while selected variants witnessed price cuts to remain competitive in the market.
