Maruti Suzuki India recently released a report claiming that the brand has reached a milestone with its popular car, Fronx. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx has crossed the five-lakh production milestone in just 28 months. Since its debut in 2023, the Fronx has been moving towards an upward trajectory in sales and services.
The car has established itself as one of the best-selling compact SUVs in India and a strong contender in global markets. Fronx’s rapid success highlights Maruti Suzuki’s strong position in the Indian automotive market.
On achieving such a milestone in the Indian market, the Managing Director and CEO of MSIL, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, said, “We are deeply grateful to our customers for choosing the Maruti Suzuki Fronx as their vehicle of choice and making it one of the best-selling compact SUVs in India. This achievement reflects India’s manufacturing excellence and customer acceptance for vehicles with future design and technology.”
He later stated, "With its bold design and styling, best-in-class fuel mileage, and advanced features, Fronx gained popularity in both domestic and international markets."
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx was unveiled for the first time at the Auto Expo 2023. The brand decided to enter the compact premium market with Fronx to attract modern and next-generation drivers who value design over performance. As the name itself reflects, it is a portmanteau of Frontier Next. This abbreviation signifies SUV’s modern and sporty appeal.
As the car launched, just within 10 months on the podium, Fronx achieved one lakh sales under the Maruti portfolio. It became one of the fastest-growing SUVs that touched one lakh sales units. With 21,000 units sold in February 2025, Fronx achieved its highest monthly sales to date, demonstrating its increasing dominance.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx offers versatile engine options for Indian customers, in both petrol and CNG variants. The standard version comes with a 1.2L Dual-jet or Dual VVT engine, paired with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT. This variant also comes under CNG at an additional cost. The top trim level is powered by a 1.0L Boosterjet turbo petrol engine that is mated with a 5-speed MT as standard or a 6-speed AMT as an option.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx offers various enhanced tech features that would turn car enthusiasts’ heads. These features include a head-up display, a 360-degree view camera, a wireless smartphone charger, and a 9-inch HD Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system. This infotainment system comes with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Fronx's popularity has earned it the distinction of becoming the first ‘made-in-India’ SUV to be exported to Japan, Latin America, and Africa. With this accomplishment, Maruti Suzuki demonstrates its dedication to producing affordable, competitive cars on a global scale.
