Tata Motors launched the facelift version of the Altroz hatchback earlier this month. The car was priced at Rs 6.89 Lakh (ex-showroom) in India. With the updated version, Altroz received all-new, refreshed aesthetics with enhanced features across all the powertrains. Now the vehicle has carved its name in the history of the automotive landscape. Under the Tatas’ reign, Tata Altroz has now become the only CNG-powered car to secure the highest safety rating in the Bharat NCAP Crash Test.

After Nexon and Punch, Tata Motors has once again set a benchmark in automotive safety with its all-new Altroz, achieving a historic 5-star safety rating under the Bharat NCAP (B-NCAP) protocol. According to the latest crash test report, the vehicle achieved an impressive 29.65 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 44.90 points out of 49 for child occupant protection. With these figures, Altroz not only climbed new heights but also set new standards for premium hatchbacks to establish safety benchmarks for CNG-powered vehicles.

Let’s check out the details of the Tata Altroz testing for the BNCAP rating and what safety features this car offers for Indian customers.

Tata Altroz Facelift: Receives BNCAP 5-Star Safety Rating

The all-new Tata Altroz Facelift has received an outstanding 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, making it the nation’s first CNG-powered vehicle to get a 5-star safety rating. What’s more surprising is that the Altroz secured the 5-star rating in both adult and child occupant protection.

The Altroz excelled in Bharat NCAP's rigorous crash testing regime, offering good protection ratings for the driver and passengers. According to Bharat NCAP safety rating, the crash test result of the Tata Altroz applies to all the powertrain variants available across the portfolio, such as Smart, Pure, Pure S, Creative, Creative S, Accomplished S, and top-of-the-line Accomplished + S.

Excellent Pedestrian Protection Scores

The recently launched Tata Altroz has been able to score a remarkable 29.65 points out of 32 in the adult occupant protection test and 44.90 points out of 49 in the child occupant protection test. During the test, the car scored 15.55 points out of 16 on the frontal offset to the deformable barrier test. Furthermore, the vehicle scored 14.11 out of 16 points in the side movable accidental deformable test.

To test the proper advanced braking, the Altroz was made to run with an impact test speed of 64 kmph to perform the offset deformable barrier frontal test. Under such criteria, the car provides complete protection to the driver’s head and chest when sudden braking occurs.

In the second phase of testing, the car was made to execute a side movable deformable barrier test. For this, the test vehicle was moved to run with an average speed of 50 kmph. After the test was conducted, the hatchback was found to be overall good in both the frontal and side crash tests.

Result of Adult Occupant Safety Test:

  • Offset Deformable Barrier Test Scores—15.55 15.55 out of 16.00
  • Impact Test—Driving at 64 kmph
  • Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test Scores—14.11 out of 16.00
  • Impact Test-Driving at 50 kmph
  • Side Pole Impact Test-Driving at 29 kmph

Child Protection Safety Test

The hatchback also provides the best-in-class protection for the child occupant. The Altroz Facelift scored 44.90 points out of 49.00 in the child occupant protection test. The rearward-facing ISOFIX-mounted seats provide excellent protection for both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies in frontal and side impact tests.

Result of Child Occupant Safety Test:

  • Dynamic Score—23.90 out of 24.00
  • CRS installation score—12 out of 12
  • Vehicle assessment score—9 out of 13

The all-new Tata Altroz Facelift masterfully surpassed all the BNCAP protection tests with a 5-star rating. The particular models used for the above tests were the Altorz Pure CNG MT, CRVT S CNG MT, and Accomplished S DMT variants.
