Tata Nexon EV Becomes India’s First EV To Achieve 1 Lakh Sales Milestone
Tata Nexon EV achieves a historic 1 lakh sales mark as India's pioneering EV, boosting Tata Motors' green mobility dominance with proven range and safety.

Tata Motors has once again proved that they are the giant pioneer of automotive electrification in India. The brand has etched its name in history as the Tata Nexon EV becomes the first electric car to surpass 1 lakh sales in India since its launch in 2020. This milestone underscores the increasing demands of EVs amid growing infrastructure and buyer confidence in Tata's reliable electric SUV.
Surpassing 1 lakh sales units is still an unimaginable task for the brand, yet they achieved it and showed an upward trajectory in sales of Tata’s electric vehicle segment. This strengthens Tata Motors as one of the top players in India’s shift towards sustainable transportation. Owners have clocked billions of kilometers, proving real-world viability for urban and highway use while driving the Nexon EV.
Tata Nexon EV Surpasses 1 Lakh Sales Units

Tata Nexon EV has successfully reached this milestone in just 5 years since making its debut in 2020. Outpacing its competitive rivals in an Indian market where electric vehicles are now becoming more prone to advancements. Tata's passenger EV portfolio includes the Tiago EV, Punch EV, Harrier EV, and Curvv EV. However, as a brand, Tata Motors has also crossed another milestone by selling 2.5 lakh electric vehicles in India, with Nexon EV’s 40% share alone in the sales.
Early sales grew steadily from 2020, accelerating post-2023 with battery upgrades offering up to 465 km of range (ARAI). By late 2025, 84% of Tata EV owners use them as primary vehicles, averaging 20,000 km annually, while 26,000 units exceeded 1 lakh km.
Important Factors Behind Success

The most important factor for the Tata Nexon EV to achieve such milestones is the safety standards. The car offers a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating with Ziptron technology and V2L/V2V features for fast and better charging facilities. Tata's nationwide network spans 500+ cities, supporting long trips up to 1,500 km. Recent festive sales boosted volumes, with over 10,000 EVs retailed in 30 days, up 37% year-on-year, fueled by subsidies and expanding chargers.
From The Director’s Desk
Speaking about the milestone, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, MD & CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said, “Crossing 250,000 EV sales reflects how electric mobility is fast becoming part of everyday Indian life. Our customers are driving more, travelling farther, and increasing their trust to buy electric vehicles as their only cars.”

Customer Insights and Impact
Nexon EV owners report 300+ km real-world range, saving thousands in fuel and emitting zero tailpipe pollution. High resale values and minimal maintenance further cement loyalty in India's competitive electric mobility segment.
This feat validates Tata's EV leadership, holding 45-50% market share despite rivals like Mahindra and Hyundai. It signals maturing infrastructure, with 26% of buyers new to cars, driving mass adoption.
What’s Ahead?
Tata Motors plans to invest around Rs 16,000-18,000 crore by FY2030 for models like Sierra EV, Avinya, and Nexon EV updates. Expansions include 1 million chargers via Tata Power and global EV exports, targeting 30 new products for the Indian automotive landscape.
Conclusion
The Tata Nexon EV's 1 lakh sales milestone cements its legacy as India's EV trailblazer, fueling a greener mobility revolution. With robust infrastructure and upcoming models, Tata Motors is poised to accelerate electric adoption, empowering millions towards sustainable drives ahead.
