Renault India is making plans to expand its product portfolio in India. According to the latest report, the upcoming Renault Kwid EV has recently been spotted testing again, and this test mule might be the final production unit, as it seems from the heavy camouflage. Since the test mule was wrapped under the skin, we can still see its exterior design elements that hint that this will be the electric version of the Kwid.
This is a significant step for Renault as it aims to enter the rapidly growing electric vehicle market in India with an affordable and practical option for urban buyers. The upcoming Renault EV might be affordable but will offer subtle modernity. The launch is likely scheduled for late 2025 or early 2026. Let’s check out what the EV iteration has to offer for the Indian customers.
The Design

From what I inferred from the test mule that surfaced on the internet, the car will carry forward the exterior design elements from the current Kwid. Although the EV version might have a different design platform, the compact silhouette would be similar to Kwid’s existing models. The test vehicle sports a new front fascia with sleek horizontal LED DRLs and halogen headlamps, complemented by Renault’s refreshed logo. Furthermore, a closed-off grille and charging port positioned below the logo signify its electric nature, paving the way for the Indian roads.
Talking about its rear, the Kwid EV showcases new Y-shaped LED tail lamps, a redesigned bumper, a roof spoiler, and a rear windshield wiper. The overall profile of the car might share a resemblance with Dacia, which is sold globally. From the side profile, the car looks rugged, with few plastic claddings adding to the body contours. However, the door handles and steel wheels are covered with simple wheel caps, keeping the vehicle’s cost-effectiveness in check.
Renault Kwid EV: Interiors

The interiors are where the brand is expected to make the biggest improvements. The brand has not disclosed any details about the interiors yet. But we can expect that the company will provide enriched interiors with an all-new 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, combined with a new user interface, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a digital instrument cluster with customizable themes. The steering wheel also gets an updated look, featuring the new Renault logo.
Other features likely include safety technologies such as multiple airbags, hill-start assist, electronic stability control (ESC), and basic advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). It is even possible that the car might get a good score under the BNCAP testing when launched, to get more credits and attractive sales figures from the customers.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the hood, the vehicle might be powered by a single, front-wheel drivetrain motor, which offers multiple output ranges. The powertrain would be identical to the Dacia Spring EV's, which generates 44.2 HP of power and 125 Nm of torque. The higher-spec version delivers around 64 HP with 113 Nm of peak torque. Both variants are estimated to have a top speed of 125 kmph. The Kwid EV is powered by a 26.8 kWh battery pack and has a stated 225-kilometer range between charges.
Market Positioning and Launch Outlook
Renault’s much-anticipated EV model, the Renault Kwid EV, might be priced around Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. At such competitive pricing, the car is positioned to compete with electric hatchbacks like the Tata Tiago EV, MG Comet EV, and Citroën eC3. Renault appears focused on launching the Kwid EV shortly after introducing its upcoming Duster and Boreal SUVs, potentially by the end of 2025 or early 2026.
Conclusion
The Indian market is evolving rapidly, and the brands are promoting sustainable electric mobility across the nation. The company plans to enter the Indian electric market with the Kwid EV in the hopes of increasing sales figures for an electric mobility push.
