Apple car delayed: No longer fully self-driving

According to Bloomberg, Apple has delayed the anticipated debut of its eagerly awaited self-driving automobile by roughly a year, to 2026. According to sources familiar with the company's plans, Apple is not just postponing the automobile project, internally referred to as Titan, but also reducing the self-driving capabilities of the vehicle as it adjusts to reality, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

According to earlier rumors, Apple planned to introduce the first vehicle with "Level 5" autonomy. The vehicle would be capable of transporting passengers without the need for a driver. No need for a steering wheel or pedals would exist.

But according to recent revelations and as per Bloomberg, Apple recently acknowledged that the available technology does not allow for this. Apple's upcoming automobile will therefore have a far less ambitious design and include a steering wheel, an accelerator, and a brake pedal. The Apple car will still be fully autonomous, but only when traveling on interstates.

Apple is now working on a car that would allow drivers to multitask while on the road, like watching a movie or playing a game and would inform them in time to switch to manual control if they reached city streets or encountered bad weather. The feature may first be introduced in North America before being improved and expanded over time.

What is the Expected Price of the Apple Car?

Reports suggest that Apple had originally planned to charge more than $120,000 for its self-driving car. Apple is apparently seeking to sell the automobile to consumers for less than $100,000 as a result of recent revisions to its plans. The rumors also suggest that Apple hasn't decided on a design, which is not surprising. Apple aims to finalize the design in 2023 and decide on the features by the end of 2024 for the car, which is presently claimed to be in the "pre-prototype" stage. Then around 2025, extensive testing will start.
