Ford Figo Petrol variant will soon get an automatic transmission system paired with its existing 1.2L petrol engine. It is a change from its earlier version that came paired with a larger displacement engine borrowed from the EcoSport.

Ford Figo has previously offered automatic transmission gearbox options at the time of its launch in 2015. At that time, the vehicle drew its power from a 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine capable of delivering 110hp power. This engine paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission system. The company had envisaged replacing this unit with a torque converter gearbox when developing the Ford Figo Facelift in 2019. However, the upgrading to BS6 fuel efficiency norms forced the company to drop its plans.

Ford plans to equip its Figo models with an automatic gearbox system paired with its existing 1.2L petrol engine. It can deliver a maximum power of 96hp and torque of 119Nm. In addition, the new torque converter could help mask low-end responses and make the vehicle more responsive at low speeds.

The mid-spec Titanium variant could be the model that will get this upgrade. Besides, Ford also plans to offer the unit on the facelifted BS4 hatchback. However, the automatic transmission system will increase the overall pricing of the vehicle and make it more expensive than its manual counterparts.

Ford Figo Automatic Competition

Maruti Swift and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios come with automatic transmission systems on their 1.2L petrol engine models. Ford Figo plans to compete with this segment by offering similar 5-speed automatic transmission gearboxes on its selected variants. One can also expect an updated Ford EcoSport sometime later in 2021.
