Hybrid Segment Performance
Hybrid vehicles saw increased acceptance among Indian buyers in FY2026. Toyota led the hybrid segment with more than 82% market share. The company's hybrid lineup includes the Innova Hycross, Hyryder, Camry, and Vellfire. Maruti Suzuki followed with a 16.47% share, while Honda held 0.82%.
The Toyota Innova Hycross emerged as the top-selling hybrid model, recording 62,586 units and accounting for 50.68% of the hybrid market. The Hyryder secured the second spot with 35,745 units sold, representing a 28.94% share. Together, these two models contributed nearly 80% of all hybrid vehicle sales in India during FY2026.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara ranked third with 11,739 units sold, capturing a 9.51% share. The Invicto MPV added 5,350 units, and Victoris contributed 3,247 units. Despite Maruti Suzuki's partnership with Toyota for hybrid technology, its sales volumes remained lower than Toyota's comparable models.
Other Hybrid Models and Market Trends

The Toyota Camry continued to attract premium sedan buyers, selling 2,346 units. The Vellfire luxury MPV added 1,483 units. Honda City e:HEV, the only hybrid sedan from Honda in India, recorded 1,007 units sold in FY2026.
Sales data indicates that Indian consumers currently prefer hybrid SUVs and MPVs over hybrid sedans. Toyota's broad hybrid portfolio, which includes mass-market SUVs, premium MPVs, sedans, and luxury vehicles, has given the company a strong advantage in the segment.
Factors such as rising fuel prices, improved efficiency, lower running costs, and the convenience of not relying on charging infrastructure are driving hybrid adoption. Urban buyers, in particular, are increasingly viewing hybrids as a practical alternative to both conventional internal combustion engine vehicles and fully electric cars.
Toyota plans to expand its hybrid offerings further. The company is developing a more affordable version of the Innova Hycross hybrid for fleet buyers. A new 7-seater version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder is also in the pipeline, with a launch expected during the festive season. Additionally, a Hyryder facelift is under development, which will include new features and ADAS updates while retaining the existing strong hybrid powertrain.

As more automakers enter this space, competition is set to intensify, but for now, Toyota remains firmly in the driver’s seat of India’s hybrid revolution.
