Kia Sonet is one of the highly popular vehicles from the South Korean brand. This car immediately became the favourite of many due to its premium offerings in a sub-10-lakh budget.

Kia Sonet is one of the highly popular vehicles from the South Korean brand. This car immediately became the favourite of many due to its premium offerings in a sub-10-lakh budget. With that said, Kia is working on a new version of it and has recently teased the 7 seater version of the Sonet for Indonesian market.
Kia Sonet available in the Indonesian market is slightly longer than the one we get in India. The India spec SUV falls under the sub-4 meter category in order to adhere to the lower tax benefits. However, Indonesia gets a 4120 mm long vehicle with a similar to India spec vehicle wheelbase of 2500 mm.
Kia doesn’t seem to be adjusting the wheelbase of the SUV to accommodate the third row. Rather, the third row will be fixed in the current available space and will zero down the boot space inside the car. The middle row will get the fold and tumble function to let third row passengers get inside the car.
7 seater vehicles including SUVs and MPVs are among the favourites of Indonesian buyers while sedans get the least number of buyers. With a 7-seater Kia Sonet, Kia is aiming to enter the alleged segment and churn out more sales numbers.
Kia Sonet is available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine in Indonesia. It is paired with either a 6 Speed manual transmission or a CVT. We are expecting the same engine to power the 7 seater version as well. Kia may introduce a suffix after the original name of the vehicle instead of giving it a completely new name.
The chances of 7 seater Kia Sonet to enter India are highly unlikely. Instead we’ll be getting a bigger MPV which is currently on test with the name Kia KY. It will be competing with Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, XL6 and Mahindra Marazzo. This new MPV may arrive by the end of 2021.
