Mahindra & Mahindra has recently announced that they have secured the second spot in the car sales in the 2025 season. These sales figures have been recorded for the passenger car vehicle segment for CY2025, based on the Vahan data till December 25, 2025. For Mahindra, as a brand, it will be the first time that it has overtaken both Hyundai and Tata Motors in annual sales.
Mahindra Scorpio N and Mahindra Scorpio Classic Increase the Sales Volume

Mahindra Scorpio variants delivered robust volumes, with Scorpio-N alone selling around 18,372 units in September 2025. If we combine both, the sales of Mahindra Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic together exceeded 15,000 units monthly, such as 15,442 in January and 13,618 in February, underscoring their leadership in the D1-segment SUV space. Scorpio Classic added steady volumes, reaching 11,355 in December, bolstering the family's flagship status.
Both Scorpio ranges outnumbered Bolero in sales figures and secured nearly 20-30% of the brand’s SUV shares periodically. The second model that helps to surge the sales figures of Mahindra is the best-selling Thar. With Thar Roxx and Thar 5-door SUVs reaching around 107,326 units, marking 55% of Mahindra’s year-on-year sales.

Mahindra registered around 5.81 lakh units in 2025. These sales figures were 1 lakh more than the previous year. These results made Mahindra move from the number 4 spot to the number 2 spot in 2025. Apart from the Scorpio series and Thar variants, the Mahindra XUV 3XO sold around 10,601 units in November, which represents 38% growth. Whereas, Mahindra XUV 700 added 6,176 units.
Factors Driving Success
The most important factor for the rise in sales of Mahindra cars was the decorated festive season and the latest implementation of the GST 2.0 tax reforms. Recent festive seasons like Dussehra and Diwali, plus GST 2.0 reforms, boosted retail, with October hitting record PV dispatches. Lucrative discounts and offers also lifted the demand and supply of Bolero and Scorpio sales in rural areas.

What’s Ahead

Mahindra is poised for sustained growth with upcoming XUV 7XO and Thar EV launches, building on 2025's momentum. Scorpio-N's pricing from Rs 13.20 to 24.17 lakh and 5-star safety keep it competitive against Creta and Alcazar. The brand is also bringing the new edition of the Scorpio Facelift version, soon to debut in January 2026. Mahindra's second-place finish signals a new era for the homegrown giant.
Conclusion
Mahindra's Scorpio-fueled ascent to second in 2025 sales cements its SUV supremacy, outpacing rivals with bold innovation and unyielding demand. As India races toward an electrified future, expect Mahindra to defend its throne fiercely, delivering rugged thrills that redefine roads ahead.
