Mahindra, a prominent player in the automotive industry, is gearing up to unveil its latest creation, the XUV.e9 EV Coupe. This stylish electric vehicle marks a significant departure from the traditional monocoque SUV design, embracing the increasingly popular coupe SUV trend that has been gaining momentum in recent times.
Coupe SUV Trend Takes Center Stage
The emergence of coupe SUVs has become a prominent trend in the automotive world, evolving from a design concept introduced by the likes of BMW X6 to becoming a mainstream choice for car enthusiasts. Mahindra is now embracing this trend with the development of the XUV.e9 and BE.09, showcasing a flamboyant design that sets it apart in the competitive market.
Spy Shots Reveal the Rear Section
Recent spy shots of the XUV.e9 provide a closer look at the rear section of this electrified vehicle. While the XUV.e8 is an electrified version of the upcoming XUV700, the XUV.e9 takes inspiration from the XUV800, promising a coupe SUV experience with an emphasis on aerodynamic performance. The spy shots reveal a design benchmarked against the Tesla Model Y, hinting at Mahindra's commitment to achieving top-notch aerodynamics.
Clearer Picture with Spy Shots
Automotive enthusiast Anto Leo Thomson managed to capture clear and close-up shots of the XUV.e9 test mule near Paranur toll gate, Tamil Nadu. These images offer the clearest view yet of the XUV.e9, showcasing production-spec components such as tail lights and headlights. The vehicle's massive size and road presence, coupled with a coupe roofline, make it a striking addition to Mahindra's lineup.
Design Highlights
Despite the slightly small wheels for its size, the XUV.e9 features a flowing coupe roofline that smoothly transitions into a connected tail light design at the rear. The rear section also boasts a split aero spoiler and a shark fin antenna, adding to the vehicle's aerodynamic prowess. Flush front door handles and a C-pillar-mounted rear door handle, along with chunky body claddings, contribute to the overall visual appeal.
Interiors
Anto Leo Thomson's observations extend to the XUV.e9's interiors, revealing a triple-screen setup for the main infotainment, driver's instrumentation, and front passenger. The steering wheel design seems to draw inspiration from Tata's recent steering design. Similar to the BE.05 model, the XUV.e9 may feature a fixed glass roof, enhancing the immersive experience for occupants.

Power and Performance
Underpinning the XUV.e9 is Mahindra's new INGLO platform, offering a versatile range of powertrains. The battery size is expected to vary between 60 kWh to 80 kWh, providing ample options for different driving needs. Both single motor RWD and dual motor AWD layouts will be available, delivering impressive performance with instant electric torque. Mahindra has even demonstrated a top speed of 200 km/h, showcasing the capabilities of its latest creation.
While Tata Tigor and Maruti Suzuki Fronx marked the early entries into the mainstream coupe vehicle segment in India, Mahindra has a longstanding interest in coupe vehicles. The XUV500 Aero Concept, with its sloping roofline, was an early showcase of this interest. The new BE.09 and XUV.e9 represent the spiritual successors of that design, carrying the legacy forward with a modern and flamboyant touch.
