India’s automotive giant, Maruti Suzuki, has recently registered names that provide insights into its electric vehicle (EV) strategy and plans for new business ventures. With a focus on electrification and the introduction of at least six new EVs by the end of the decade, Maruti Suzuki aims to solidify its position as the country's largest carmaker.
Maruti Poolkar – Car Pool Services in the Horizon?
The registration of the 'Maruti Suzuki Poolkar' word mark suggests a potential entry into the carpool services segment. Collaborating with a technology partner, Maruti aims to leverage its renowned brand to provide efficient and reliable carpool services, bringing users a sense of trust and confidence.

Maruti's Charging Infrastructure
In line with the growing EV market, Maruti Suzuki has registered two other names – Maruti Suzuki Smart Charge and Maruti Suzuki Charge Hub. Smart Charge could represent standalone charging points, while Charge Hub might feature multiple charging points at a single location. These charging stations could be strategically placed at retail shops, roadside parking areas, shopping malls, offices, and other public places.
Users may have the option to choose subscription plans or pay on an hourly basis. It remains to be seen whether the charging stations will exclusively cater to Maruti EVs or extend services to other electric vehicles, similar to Hyundai's recent network of charging stations in India.
Maruti's EV Lineup and Expansion Plans
Maruti Suzuki is set to launch its first electric car, the eVX, later this year. Positioned on a born-electric platform, it will compete with upcoming models like the Tata Curvv EV and Hyundai Creta EV. Maruti's ambitious plan includes the development of an entry-level electric hatchback, based on the eWX Concept, and a new electric MPV internally codenamed YMC.

This new line, allocated funds worth Rs 3,200 crore, will exclusively produce 2.5 lakh EVs annually. Maruti is not only manufacturing EVs but also producing battery cells, battery packs, and modules for both domestic use and export markets, aiming for revenue generation of around Rs 750 crore in the current financial year. Maruti Suzuki's entry into carpool services and the establishment of a comprehensive charging infrastructure mark significant strides toward a sustainable and electric future.
