MG Set to Launch Toyota Fortuner Rival in India Soon

The Toyota Fortuner is India's best-selling full-size SUV, well-known for its impressive off-road capabilities, robust engine, reliable performance, and spacious interior. Toyota's ladder-frame flagship SUV primarily has three major rivals: Jeep Meridian, Isuzu MU-X, and MG Gloster. 

Recently, JSW MG Motor India has announced to offer a major update in its Gloster SUV in the coming months. The automaker is also ready to debut a more premium variant of the new Gloster, the MG Majestor, which was showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show. MG Motor India will position its upcoming Majestor as a direct competitor of Toyota Fortuner in India. 

MG Majestor Design 

MG Majestor gets design inspiration from the globally sold Maxus D90 SUV, featuring a large, blacked-out grille with horizontal slats flanked by a split headlamp setup on the front. A bigger MG logo and slim DRLs are placed vertically below the headlamp clusters, and black cladding across its front length with a silver bash plate. 

The Majestor SUV has 19-inch, 5-spoke, diamond-cut alloy wheels with a chrome finish. It also gets blackout treatment on door handles, the top half, and wing mirrors for a more premium look and feel. The rear profile of the MG Majestor is similar to the MG Gloster, housing dual exhaust pipes, wraparound connected taillamps, and a sporty bumper.

While there are no details about the India-bound Majestor SUV, the spy images confirm that the updated Gloster and Majestor SUVs will have an all-black cabin theme with a 12.3-inch infotainment system and an all-digital instrument cluster. More existing features will continue to be offered, including a 12-speaker premium sound system, three-zone climate control, sunroof, heated passenger seats, cooled and massaging driver seats with power adjust, and an electric tailgate. 

MG Majestor Engine

The upcoming Toyota Fortuner rival from MG Motor is expected to feature the same 2.0-liter 4-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine offered in higher-spec variants of the Gloster SUV. The engine unit will be paired with the 8-speed automatic gearbox to deliver 216 bhp and 479 Nm of torque. The updated MG Gloster and Majestor SUVs will be available with an optional 4x4 drivetrain system for better off-road performance.
