Land Rover Range Rover has introduced the GT, its most radical new model since the Velar in 2017. The Range Rover GT is a grand tourer that moves away from the traditional SUV format. It is fully electric and represents a significant shift for the brand.

Design and Platform Innovations

The Range Rover GT features a long, low silhouette with a coupe-like roofline. This design makes it the lowest Range Rover yet, sitting lower than a Porsche Macan and longer than a Range Rover Sport. The wheelbase exceeds three meters, supporting high-speed stability and comfort for long journeys.
The GT is built on JLR’s new EMA platform, which is designed specifically for electric vehicles. This platform allows for more design freedom compared to the MLA architecture used in other Range Rover models. The EMA platform also improves interior space and packaging.
Despite its low roofline, the GT offers enough headroom for passengers over six feet tall in both rows. This is achieved with a fixed panoramic glass roof, the largest Range Rover has fitted, which adds 40mm of headroom. The battery uses longer cells in a single layer, keeping the floor lower and maintaining a natural seating position. The GT also features a front trunk, or frunk, which is not available in MLA-based Range Rover Electrics.
Performance, Refinement, and Technology

The interior follows Range Rover’s reductive design philosophy, with a focus on simplicity and comfort. The cabin features strong horizontal lines, a central OLED screen, and a compact driver display. This setup reduces visual clutter and the amount of information the driver needs to process. A concealed air vent runs across the dashboard, and woven textiles hide the speakers, emphasizing a clean and quiet environment.
Controls in the GT are simplified, with few physical buttons, aiming to make the interface more user-friendly. The second row offers class-leading legroom, supported by the stretched body and efficient EMA packaging. The rear seats are designed to provide a comfortable experience, not just basic accommodation.
Refinement is central to the Range Rover GT’s development. Martin Limpert, Managing Director of Range Rover, states it is "the quietest Range Rover yet," being 7 dB quieter than the ICE Range Rover. The electric powertrain ensures smooth and calm driving, which is essential for a grand tourer.
While official figures are not yet released, the platform and wheelbase suggest a large battery and strong long-distance capability. The GT is designed for fewer charging stops and extended travel between charges. The initial version will be a pure battery-electric vehicle, with a hybrid option planned for the future.
Testing and Production Details
Prototype GTs are currently undergoing global testing, wearing camouflage inspired by the landscape around Gaydon, where Range Rover’s design and engineering teams are based. The topographic pattern on the camouflage hints at the car’s shape beneath.
Range Rover describes the GT as its most technologically advanced model to date. The EMA platform, advanced software integration, and a wide range of driver assistance features set it apart from previous models. The GT aims to combine electric performance, refinement, and all-terrain ability in a way that redefines the Range Rover badge.
The Range Rover GT will be built in Halewood alongside internal combustion and hybrid models. This new model marks Range Rover’s entry into the electric grand touring segment, offering a distinct design and advanced technology.
