  • RGEP supports factory-fitted CNG, updated powertrains and advanced digital features
  • Transition begins with upgrades to existing models like Kwid and Triber

Platform Transition and Market Strategy

Renault has built a strong presence in India's compact car market, competing with Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Hyundai Motor India. The Kwid, Triber, and Kiger models, based on the CMF-A platform, helped Renault gain a foothold in the mass market. However, with the portfolio ageing, Renault is now shifting to the RGEP to remain competitive.

Renault India Managing Director and CEO Stéphane Deblaise stated that the current platform cannot support factory-fitted CNG, newer powertrains, or next-generation digital architecture. The RGEP will form the foundation of Renault's future offerings under ₹10 lakh, balancing affordability with improved technology, connectivity, and flexibility.

The RGEP will support multiple powertrain options, including factory-fitted CNG and updated petrol engines. It will also feature improved electronic architectures and more advanced infotainment systems. The platform is designed to allow multiple body styles, enabling Renault to expand its compact vehicle range using a single architecture.

Deblaise emphasized that customer expectations in India are changing rapidly. The new platform aims to support new technologies, multiple powertrain choices, and enhanced connectivity. The transition to RGEP will begin with upgrades to existing models like the Kwid and Triber, with the first updates expected in the coming months.

This shift is part of Renault's broader “FutuREady India” roadmap. While RGEP will focus on petrol and CNG models, the larger RGMP platform will support electrified powertrains, including internal combustion engine, electric, and hybrid options.

Strategic Importance for Renault

Renault's new platform is central to its plan to rebuild volumes and strengthen its position in the compact car segment. The company faces increased competition as rivals offer more features and fuel options at entry-level prices. The RGEP will help Renault address these challenges and regain traction in the market.

Exports are also set to become a key growth driver, with India playing a larger role in Renault’s global strategy. The company’s global CEO has outlined an “India for India, India for the world” approach, focusing on deep localisation and new platforms to drive growth.
