2021 Skoda Kushaq is based on Skona Vision IN Concept which was on display at Auto Expo 2020. It will compete against Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.

Skoda Kushaq has been the most awaited SUV in the market to lock its horns with Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. Currently, there is no other contender in this category to claim any big share of sales in this category other than these two South Korean cars. Being one of the hottest car segments in India, It will soon be joined by another German beast i.e. Volkswagen Taigun, probably by the 4th quarter of this year.
Skoda Kushaq was showcased in its concept form during Auto Expo 2020 where the brand called it Skoda Vision IN Concept. This vehicle is the first one to follow the India 2.0 strategy by the Volkswagen Group and they’ll be employing this strategy for their future vehicle line-up as well.
Skoda Kushaq is based on the MQB-A0-IN platform which is specifically designed for Indian market. It is a derived form of MQB-A platform which underpins other bigger vehicles from VW Group including Audi Q5. Hence, you can imagine the level of premiumness this car will offer. The derived platform will be shared by VW Taigun as well and the powertrain options will also remain the same.

On the outside, the Kushaq looks very similar to its concept form. It has sleeker lines all around the car which make it look aggressive and smart. The front has a projector headlight setup with dual function LED projector lamps. The wide Skoda grille in the middle shouts loud about the road presence of the car and prestige of its brand. The sides are quite clean and had a broad rugged cladding on the lower part. The door handles are semi finished in chrome while the diamond cut alloy wheels are 17-inches and rest on 205 profile tyres which falls a bit shorter than the closest rivals it has. At the rear, it has typical Skoda design and thanks to those sweeping LED tail lamps, the car looks broader than it actually is.
Inside the car, this Skoda vehicle has got something more than what Skoda usually prefers to put in their car. Instead of keeping the cabin calm and sober, Skoda Kushaq has got glammed-up equipment. In terms of features, it has a 10 inch screen, touch controls for climate control, two spoke steering wheel, cooled glovebox, wireless mobile charger, USB type C ports, etc. The fit and finish of each and every corner is top-notch, however, the use of hard plastic is prominent. While the front seats are ventilated and very comfortable for longer runs, the rear bench has well bolstered underthigh support and leg room, but only for two passengers as the space in the middle may fall short for third occupant. The boot space is adequate but lesser than the korean rivals at 385 litres.
In terms of engines, the Kushaq will be offered with 2 turbo petrol engines; the first one is a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged unit that produces 115PS of power and 215Nm of torque. This engine sounds good for daily city commute and occasional highway cruising. It will be available with 6-speed Manual and 6-speed torque converter transmissions. The second engine on offer is a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged unit which generates 150PS of power and 250Nm of torque. This engine would be a breeze on the highway as it comes mated to 6 speed manual and 7 Speed DSG gearboxes. The reason why we are excited about the second engine is the extra power topped up with the German’s best DSG unit.
While there are no words shared by the Czeck automaker on the prices of this car, we are expecting it to range between Rs. 10 lakhs and Rs. 16.5 lakhs ex-showroom.
