Tata Motors, one of India’s leading automotive giants, concluded April 2025 with a mixed performance across its Passenger Vehicle (PV) and Electric Vehicle (EV) segments. While the company remains a dominant player in both sectors, the latest monthly figures indicate a marginal contraction in overall demand, particularly when benchmarked against last year’s April sales.
Tata's Passenger Vehicle Sales Of April 2025
In the domestic market, Tata Motors sold 45,199 passenger vehicles in April 2025, marking a 5.61% year-on-year (YoY) decline over the 47,883 units sold in April 2024. This translates to a volume drop of 2,684 units.
The sales decline becomes steeper on a month-on-month (MoM) basis. Compared to March 2025, when 51,616 units were sold, Tata witnessed a 12.43% MoM dip, losing 4,417 units in volume.
Month | Sales Volume | Change % (YoY) | Change % (MoM) | Volume Change (YoY) | Volume Change (MoM) |
April 2024 | 47,883 | - | - | - | - |
March 2025 | 51,616 | - | - | - | - |
April 2025 | 45,199 | -5.61% | -12.43% | -2,684 | -4,417 |
Despite the overall dip, Tata continues to maintain a strong product mix with models like Tiago, Tigor, Punch, Nexon, Curvv, Harrier, and Safari contributing to the monthly tally.
Tata's Electric Vehicle Performance
Tata’s EV portfolio, which includes the Nexon EV, Tiago EV, and Tigor EV, registered a YoY decline of 16.44% in April 2025. A total of 5,318 EVs were sold, down from 6,364 units in April 2024, a shortfall of 1,046 units.
Month | EV Sales | Change % (YoY) | Volume Change |
April 2024 | 6,364 | - | - |
April 2025 | 5,318 | -16.44% | -1,046 |
While EV sales cooled off slightly, the broader PV sales (including EVs) totalled 45,532 units, reflecting a 5.11% YoY drop.
Tata's Passenger Vehicle Exports
Tata’s export performance in the PV segment was a rare bright spot in April 2025. The automaker shipped 333 units, a massive 233% YoY growth over the 100 units exported in April 2024.
A combined view of Tata's EV's & PV's
When including EVs within the broader PV category, Tata’s total passenger vehicle sales (domestic + EV) stood at 45,532 units, showing a 5.11% YoY decline.
Conclusion
Tata Motors’ Passenger Vehicle division showed signs of softening demand in April 2025, with both ICE and EV segments witnessing declines. The electric vehicle contraction, in particular, indicates that the red-hot growth phase might be slowing as market dynamics evolve. However, the sharp rise in PV exports could signal the start of a more globally orientated strategy. Tata’s performance in upcoming months will be critical to watch, especially as new product launches and EV innovations come into play.
