Bangalore Takes a Step Towards Sustainability with 270 E-Vehicles

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has proposed to purchase 270 e-bikes under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), run by the Union government, at a cost of INR 4 crore in an effort to enhance ambient air quality in the city. In all 243 wards under the BBMP, these e-bikes will be fitted with fire extinguishers to combat fire occurrences at risky rubbish pickup spots.

With marshals responding to complaints of fire at vulnerable places, "We are acquiring e-bikes to provide ambient air quality," Lingaiah added

Marshals and health inspectors will use these e-bikes to keep an eye on risky rubbish dumps, according to Praveen Lingaiah, head engineer of solid waste management, BBMP. The BBMP's command centre will be able to follow the movement of the vehicles because they will be GPS-enabled.

More than enough money was collected from September 2019 to February 2023 for disposing garbage by unscientific methods. Almost INR 2CR was collected from Houses apartments and commercial places.
