India Car Sales March 2026: Maruti, Tata, Mahindra Lead Growth With 16 Percent Rise

India's passenger vehicle market recorded strong growth in March 2026, with total sales reaching 4,47,702 units. This marks a 16.03% increase compared to 3,85,860 units sold in March 2025. Sales also rose 6.44% from 4,20,613 units in February 2026. The surge was driven by high SUV demand, improved rural sentiment, and new product launches across segments.

Top Automakers and Market Performance

Maruti Suzuki maintained its lead with 1,66,219 units sold in March 2026, reflecting a 10.27% year-on-year growth. Tata Motors followed with 66,192 units, showing a 28.24% increase. Mahindra reported 60,272 units, up 25.44% from the previous year. Hyundai sold 55,064 units, growing 6.26%, while Toyota completed the top five with 35,168 units, a 23.95% rise.

Other manufacturers also saw notable changes. Kia posted 29,112 units, up 14.05%. Skoda recorded 7,928 units, a 6.82% increase, and Honda sold 7,585 units, up 4.94%. MG Motor achieved 6,528 units, growing 18.67% year-on-year.

Renault and Nissan were the fastest-growing brands in March 2026. Renault's sales jumped 77.30% to 5,046 units, while Nissan grew 76.39% to 4,408 units. Citroen posted a 100.25% increase with 815 units, though from a low base. In contrast, Volkswagen's sales declined 12.89% to 3,082 units, and Jeep dropped 3.74% to 283 units.

Month-on-Month and Quarterly Trends

Most automakers reported month-on-month growth in March 2026. Maruti Suzuki grew 3.24%, Tata Motors 6.20%, and Hyundai 5.07%. Toyota saw a 14.42% increase, while Kia rose 5.44%. Skoda and Honda posted gains of 24.63% and 34.75% respectively. MG Motor increased 31.69%. Renault and Nissan reported strong jumps of 44.38% and 97.67% over February 2026.

For the January–March 2026 quarter, total passenger vehicle sales reached 13,20,814 units, a 13.07% rise over 11,68,087 units in Q1 2025. Maruti Suzuki led with 5,01,748 units, up 3.42%. Tata Motors posted 1,98,653 units, a 35.95% increase. Mahindra sold 1,83,800 units, growing 23.25%. Hyundai reported 1,66,578 units, up 8.48%, and Toyota sold 96,535 units, a 19.23% increase. Kia recorded 84,325 units, up 11.58%.

Among other brands, Skoda grew 16.86% to 20,028 units, MG Motor rose 16.98% to 16,328 units, and Renault surged 47.63% to 12,256 units. Nissan grew 26.40% to 9,140 units. Volkswagen and Jeep saw declines of 15.62% and 15.05% respectively. Citroen posted a 146.55% increase, though from a low base.

Market Outlook
