Discover the Euro5-compliant Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R with its aggressive new design, 636cc engine and updated specifications. Learn about its availability and competitors including the BMW F 900 R and Aprilia Tuono 660.
Kawasaki has recently launched the Euro5-compliant Ninja ZX-6R in overseas markets. This middleweight supersport bike has undergone several aesthetic and technical changes. With its compliance with Euro5 norms, there is a possibility that it may return to our market.
The new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R has an aggressive appearance with its new twin LED headlight setup and all-new fairing. The company refers to the design as ‘3D interwoven bodywork’, which means floating panels with integrated winglets.
While most of the bike’s styling has been updated or completely redesigned, the triangular tail light and 636cc liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine have been retained from the previous model. The engine is now Euro5 compliant and produces 121.6PS, which is almost 6PS less than the previous model. The new model’s torque of 69.14Nm is also slightly lower than the previous model, but it reaches peak torque 300rpm sooner.
Kawasaki has made efforts to make the ZX-6R more practical for everyday use. It now features four riding modes: Rain, Road, Sport and Rider-adaptable, which allows for fine-tuning of traction control settings. The ABS system has also been improved and all settings can be accessed through the 4.3-inch TFT console.
The frame and components are the same as the previous model, including the Showa Separate Function Big Piston fork and Un-Trak monoshock for suspension and Nissin brakes. The alloy wheels are also unchanged, but the Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S22 tires have been replaced with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV units.
In addition to the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, the company also unveiled an updated ZX-10 RR with Variable Air Intake achieved through movable intake funnels. However, this feature is only for racing purposes and can only be activated with a Race-kit ECU and sub-controller.
As for whether it will come to India, it is possible that it could arrive as early as November 2023 with a price tag of Rs 12.50 lakh (ex-showroom India). Some of its top competitors include the BMW F 900 R, Kawasaki Versys 1000, BMW F 900 XR, Triumph Street Triple ABS, Aprilia Tuono 660, Triumph Speed Twin, Aprilia RS 660, Triumph Bonneville T120, Kawasaki Ninja 1000, and Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled.
