Mahindra Thar's price hiked again, top-spec variant sees the biggest increase.

Mahindra Thar becomes costlier by Rs. 1.05 lakh in a short span of time

Mahindra and Mahindra have once again announced a price increase for their flagship Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), Thar. The automaker has raised the prices of the SUV by up to INR 1.05 lakh, citing the implementation of the new BS-6 Phase 2 emission norms across India, which came into effect on April 1.

Despite the price hike, Mahindra has yet to offer any official explanation for the increase. The Thar SUV will now be available at a starting price of INR 10.55 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base AX (O) diesel manual Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant, while the top-of-the-line LX hard top diesel automatic version will cost INR 16.77 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra and Mahindra, the renowned Indian automaker, has once again raised the price of its popular Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), Thar. The new price hike, which comes into effect immediately, applies to all Thar SUV variants and ranges from Rs. 28,200 to a staggering Rs. 1.05 lakh.

The LX hard top diesel manual Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant sees the most significant increase, with a whopping Rs. 1.05 lakh added to its price tag. Among the other variants, the AX(O) hard top diesel manual RWD now costs an additional Rs. 55,000, while the remaining models have a uniform hike of Rs. 28,200. The only Thar variant spared from the price hike is the LX petrol automatic RWD version.

The latest price increase is in response to the new BS-6 Phase 2 emission norms introduced across India on April 1, 2023. Mahindra has yet to offer any official explanation for the price hike, but it is likely due to the increased costs incurred in complying with the new regulations.

It is also worth noting that the price hike comes with the withdrawal of the introductory prices for Thar RWD versions launched in January this year. Customers who were considering purchasing a Thar SUV in the coming days will need to factor in the revised pricing before making their final decision.

Despite the price increase, the Thar SUV remains a popular choice among adventure enthusiasts, thanks to its off-road capabilities and rugged design. The base AX(O) diesel manual RWD variant now starts from Rs. 10.55 lakh (ex-showroom), while the top-spec LX hard top diesel automatic version will set you back by Rs. 16.77 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra and Mahindra have introduced a new variant of its popular Thar SUV. This new variant comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine, making it the most affordable version of the Thar available to date. All other Thar variants come powered by either a 2-litre turbo petrol engine or the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine.

The Thar SUV is available with manual and automatic transmissions. The turbo petrol unit can generate up to 150 PS of power and 320 Nm of peak torque. The more powerful diesel engine churns out 130 PS of power and 300 Nm of peak torque. The latest rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant, with the 1.5-litre diesel unit, offers 118 PS and 300 Nm of torque.

Recent reports suggest that Mahindra is also planning to launch a more affordable 4X4 version of the Thar SUV soon. This variant will likely be well-received by off-roading enthusiasts who are looking for an affordable and capable vehicle to take on their adventures.

The carmaker is also gearing up to launch a five-door version of the Thar SUV in India. This new variant is expected to compete with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, which is set to launch in India sometime next month. The Thar 5-door SUV is likely to appeal to families and adventure enthusiasts who require more space and comfort.
