Maruti’s January Sales Break Records: Sold Over 2.12 Lakh Units
India’s top carmaker sold 1.73 lakh passenger vehicles in Jan 2025 – a 22% jump from December. See how SUVs outshined compact and mini segments.

India’s top carmaker Maruti Suzuki started 2025 with a bang, selling over 2.12 lakh vehicles in January – its highest-ever monthly sales and a 6% jump from last year. But not all segments shared the spotlight.

Small Cars Lose Steam
Sales of budget-friendly models like the Alto and S-Presso dipped 10% year-on-year to 14,247 units. Even yearly figures took a hit, dropping from 1.15 lakh to 1.03 lakh units.
Compact Cars & SUVs Shine
The compact segment (Baleno, Dzire, etc.) got a boost, rising 7% to 82,241 units in January. However, yearly sales for these models slipped slightly. The Ciaz sedan saw a surprising monthly spike (up 111% to 768 units), though yearly numbers halved.
SUVs Steal the Show
Utility vehicles like Brezza and Grand Vitara drove the party, with sales up 5% to 65,093 units in January. Yearly SUV sales crossed 5.94 lakh units – a solid 14% growth.
The Eeco van saw monthly sales dip to 11,250 units but yearly figures inched up slightly.
Big Picture
Overall, Maruti’s domestic passenger vehicle sales hit 1.73 lakh units in January – a 22% jump from December 2024. With SUVs leading and small cars lagging, the trend toward bigger, pricier rides shows no signs of slowing.
