MediaTek, Nvidia Partner on Connected Car Technology

MediaTek Inc and Nvidia Corp on Monday officially announced that both companies would collaborate on technology to transform the automobile industry by developing advanced vehicle infotainment systems that can stream games and videos and can also interact with drivers with the help of AI.

Companies said that MediaTek systems utilizing Nvidia software would be capable of working with automatic driving systems using Nvidia technology. The dashboard display will show information about the vehicle's environment while the camera monitors the driver.

As automakers add more features like gaming, AI for voice activation, and driver monitoring systems, the vehicle's display and entertainment systems are becoming more complex to design and optimize.

Earlier this year, Qualcomm, a major rival of MediaTek in the smartphone market, announced a partnership with SalesForce to develop a new connected platform for vehicles.

With this partnership with MediaTek, Nvidia will get access to about a $12 billion market for infotainment systems on chips, the company mentioned in an official statement.

The companies have focused on developing advanced-level connected technology for premium automotive brands like Jaguar Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz. On the other hand, MediaTek, having a significant share in the Android smartphone chip industry, offers its Dimensity Auto technology to lower-range automakers with a mass market share in the automotive industry.

Nvidia's vice president, Danny Shapiro, said there are many segments they are addressing that Nvidia hasn't addressed yet. However, the company didn't announce future automotive customers.
