To strengthen its EV market position, the automaker aims to launch two new electric models, including the Harrier EV and Sierra EV.
On Tuesday, Tata Motors Group CFO PB Balaji confirmed that the Indian automobile manufacturer expects sales growth this fiscal year as it is gearing up to launch new models and make product interventions after facing a 10% sales decline in FY25. The automaker is reportedly lining up to launch one of the most anticipated Harrier.ev, followed by Sierra. EV, along with several interventions on existing car models, to boost EV sales in the country.

He stated that Tata Motors sold about 65,000 units of EVs in FY25, which was about 10% lower than the sales of FY24. Given the reason for declining sales, he mentioned that the sales decline of Tata EVs was caused by decrease in fleet sales, the withdrawal of the FAME II subsidy, and some fleet operators were struggling with some challenges. Balaji added that the fleet sales as a portion of total EVs sold have dropped, and the automaker is working to reverse it.
Tata Motors is gaining momentum in numbers and expects to do pretty well in the coming year, and the product pipelines are positioned accordingly. Along with new launches, the automaker is also planning to increase its charging network to almost 21,000 fast chargers that have been put into place. Regarding overall capex for FY26, he confirmed that it would be similar to FY25 with no major change. In FY25, the Tata Motors group capex was recorded at Rs 8,400 crore, while 3.8 billion for JLR.
Several factors were involved in the declining sales of Tata Motors, including the increased competition from JSW MG Motor, which has the MG Windsor EV, the discontinuation of the FAME-II subsidy, and some fleet operations challenges. Tata currently has five EV models in its portfolio, including Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, and Curvv EV.
To strengthen its EV market position, the automaker aims to launch two new electric models, including the Harrier EV and Sierra EV. It is also gearing up for midlife updates for existing models, making new generation changes, and launching special editions. Tata Harrier EV is confirmed to hit the showrooms in June 2025, while the Sierra EV will arrive near the festive season this year.

The upcoming Harrier EV will be based on Tata’s Gen 2 Acti.ev platform and AWD system, ensuring a maximum torque capacity of 500 Nm. When the battery, power, and range details are not confirmed, the EV is expected to deliver a maximum range of 500 km. It will borrow overall design and interior features from its ICE counterpart with some EV-specific enhancements.
Tata Motors has already confirmed that the Sierra SUV will launch in three powertrain options: petrol, diesel, and electric. The electric version will likely have multiple battery options and an FWD setup. The EV will be offered in a 4-seat lounge inside the cabin with an ottoman function for the rear seats. Additionally, it will retain several design elements from its concept version showcased by the automaker.
