The upcoming 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the biggest launch in February and with its launch date of February 20-25 nearing, more information is getting leaked about this much awaited premium hatchback.Maruti Suzuki has recently started the 2022 Baleno official bookings of the car and it will get a segment first head-up display unit as covered by us and now information about its variants, colours and other details are out.
According to sources, the new Maruti Baleno will be available in four different variants which will get the 5-speed manual gearbox, while the automatic gearbox will be offered in every variant except the base model. The four variants are same as the current ones, namely- Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha.
The new Baleno will come loaded with features like an all-new 9-inch floating touchscreen unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, customisable Heads-up display and a flat-bottomed, multi-function steering wheel, similar to the one in the Swift.
In terms of safety too the new Baleno will get host of features with Maruti claiming it to have class leading safety with 6 airbags on offer on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno Alpha variant as well as use of Maruti’s Heartect platform which has been strengthened with stronger steel.

How does this translate in terms of safety is to be seen but the 2022 Baleno may become the highest rated Maruti Suzuki car in the Global NCAP ratings if what the company claims to be is true. Companies usually reserve the safety ratings to be revealed after the launch of their new vehicle but they get it before the official launch of their vehicle and with Maruti’s bold claims it looks like it has done well in that department.
The 2022 Maruti Baleno will continue using the same 1.2L petrol unit which will be mated to a mild-hybrid system for added fuel efficiency. This engine currently makes 90hp power and 113nm of torque.
Maruti has now dropped the CVT automatic gearbox in favour of the cheap yet effective AMT gearbox, to keep the costs in control and make the new Baleno undercut its rivals. This may not go down well with some customers who loved the CVT gearbox in the current Baleno, as we did too and the difference that the new AMT gearbox makes to the 2022 Baleno is to be decided when we get it for a test drive.
There is no news if Maruti will offer the upcoming Baleno with the other petrol engine that the current gen model of the car gets. However, the fuel efficiency of the all-new Baleno is expected to improve with Maruti also mulling to launch the Baleno CNG later this year.
Maruti Suzuki will launch its Baleno premium hatchback in five new colour options. The car will only carry forward the Pearl Arctic White colour from the current gen model with Celestial Blue, Splendid Silver, Luxe Beige, Opulent Red and Grandeur Grey the new colours to be offered.

The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno price is expected to be between Rs 6.5 lakhs to Rs 12 lakhs and it will rival its re-badged self- the Toyota Glanza, Tata Altroz, Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo and the Honda Jazz in the premium hatchback segment.
Maruti will look to strengthen its position as the leader in the premium hatchback segment with the new Baleno and is going all-out with its focus on design, features and safety as well in its future cars.
