CNG Fuels One-Third of Maruti's FY2025 Sales

With domestic sales of 17,95,259 units of passenger vehicles in FY2025, Maruti Suzuki is the largest automobile manufacturer in India. Of these, the CNG variants of Maruti cars in India stood at 6,20,000 units, around 33% of total domestic sales. The automaker also registered a 28% YoY growth for CNG vehicle sales.

Maruti Suzuki CNG Sales Spiked by 28% in FY25.

Maruti has the largest CNG portfolio in the Indian market, with 13 vehicles. Despite flagship offers, including Jimny, Ignis, and Invicto, all Maruti hatchbacks and SUVs are available in CNG powertrains. With such an expanded range of models, the automaker has a strong grip on India's CNG car segment. By the end of 2024, Maruti Suzuki had a 71.60% market share in the CNG segment, while Tata Motors and Hyundai held 16.13% and 10.04%, respectively. With the partnership with Maruti, Toyota has gained a market share of 2.21% in the CNG car segment. 

The automaker also unveiled that it sold 20,672 strong hybrid vehicles in FY25, comprising 2.4% of Maruti's total sales. This promising figure reports 27% YoY growth over FY24 and is primarily led by the sales of Grand Vitara and Invicto, which are available in a 1.5-liter strong hybrid powertrain option. 

Tata Motors Also Sees 35% Growth in YoY CNG Sales.

While Tata Motors hasn't provided exact figures, the automaker has announced that it witnessed 35% YoY growth in sales of CNG vehicles. Tata ranks second after Maruti in selling the most CNG passenger vehicles in the market. Recently, the automaker solved the boot space problem in CNG vehicles by offering dual-cylinder CNG technology. Tata Motors has flagship Tiago and Tigor that are available in flagship automatic CNG powertrain.
