For new car emission laws, the Czech Republic organised a meeting for a change.

The Czech Republic has called a meeting of the transport ministers of the 12 member states of the European Union in an effort to settle a separate dispute over the bloc's 2035 deadline for the phase-out of CO2-emitting vehicles while also contesting a new rule to reduce vehicle emissions.
The automobile industry has long been associated with pollution, and for good reason. Vehicles emit a variety of pollutants, including carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter, which can harm human health and the environment.
Governments around the world have implemented regulations to reduce vehicle emissions, such as mandating the use of catalytic converters and requiring vehicles to meet certain emissions standards. Despite these efforts, the automobile industry remains a significant source of pollution, and continued innovation is needed to reduce its environmental impact.
CO2-emitting vehicles are a major contributor to global warming and climate change. The transportation sector is responsible for a significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions, with vehicles that run on fossil fuels being the primary culprits. These emissions are a result of the burning of gasoline and diesel fuel in the engine, which produces CO2 as a byproduct.
Governments around the world are taking steps to reduce the number of CO2-emitting vehicles on the road, such as incentivizing the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles and implementing emissions standards. It is crucial that we continue to prioritise the transition to cleaner forms of transportation in order to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
List of countries who are invited-
The meeting was initially scheduled to debate a new EU rule known as Euro 7 that would tighten restrictions on vehicle emissions of chemicals that affect human health, such as nitrogen oxides.
Its environmental benefits have been called into doubt and deemed impractical by the Czech Republic, a few other nations, and business organisations.
European car emissions laws aim to reduce the number of harmful pollutants that vehicles release into the environment. These laws set strict limits on emissions of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, and other pollutants. The first Euro 1 emissions standards were introduced in 1993, followed by Euro 2 in 1997, and subsequent Euro 3, 4, 5, and 6 standards.
Each new standard sets lower limits on emissions than the previous one, driving manufacturers to develop cleaner and more efficient technologies. Manufacturers must meet these standards to sell their cars in Europe, and failure to comply can result in significant fines. These laws have contributed to significant reductions in air pollution in Europe over the years.
On Monday, March 13,
Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka said on Twitter,
I will meet in Strasbourg with the ministers of transport of the countries that also have reservations about the proposed EURO 7 emission standard.
Kupka said- The meeting will also tackle the EU's law to end sales of new CO2-emitting cars in 2035.
The bloc's primary initiative to hasten Europe's transition to electric vehicles was put on hold earlier this week as a result of Germany's impromptu opposition, which postponed a final vote that has not yet been rescheduled.
Germany has asked for guarantees that sales of new internal combustion engine vehicles will be permitted after 2035 if they are powered by CO2-neutral fuels.
Policymakers were shocked by the intervention because the automotive CO2 rule was reached last year following extensive talks including the European Parliament, the executive Commission, and EU member states.
In exchange for its assistance in limiting combustion engines, the Czech Republic, which has a sizable auto sector as well, has also asked for exemptions for synthetic fuels.
Italy and Poland are two more nations that have a history of opposing the car CO2 law. According to EU officials, more nations in the 27-member bloc have sided with them since Europe's largest economy signalled its disapproval.
