Hyundai upcoming compact electric SUV spied in India, a rival to Tata Nexon EV
Hyundai is testing its made‑for‑India compact electric SUV on Indian roads, poised to challenge the Tata Nexon EV and Tata Punch EV with competitive pricing, around 300–400 km range, and connected tech.

Hyundai’s upcoming compact electric SUV has been spotted charging next to the Tata Nexon EV, revealing its similar size and market positioning. The new B-segment electric vehicle is part of Hyundai’s plan to introduce several new EVs in India by 2030. Recent sightings at charging stations highlight Hyundai’s focus on the competitive sub-4-meter electric SUV segment.
Key Highlights
- Hyundai's new compact electric SUV spied charging next to Tata Nexon EV in India
- The SUV features a boxy design, LED taillights, and roof rails similar to Hyundai Venue
- Pricing aims to compete with Tata Punch EV, Citroen e-C3, Nexon EV, and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV
Exterior Design and Features

The new Hyundai electric SUV features a boxy profile, much like the Hyundai Venue and Hyundai Exter. Key exterior elements include a slightly raked windshield, a roof-mounted spoiler, and sharp, horizontally stacked LED taillights. The vehicle also comes with rear parking sensors and a rearview camera for added convenience.
The SUV has a largely flat roof with robust roof rails, and its angular window frames resemble those of the new Hyundai Venue. The rectangular outside rear-view mirrors may support cameras for a 360-degree view. While the wheels are not fully visible, they appear to have a dual-tone finish. Previous sightings have shown base variants equipped with steel wheels.
The charging port is positioned on the front-left above the fender. Hyundai uses different charging port placements across its EV lineup. For example, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Hyundai Ioniq 6 have the port on the right rear fender, while the Inster EV features it at the front.
Market Position and Competition
Hyundai aims to localize production of its new small EV to meet the needs of Indian consumers and offer competitive pricing. The main rival, Tata Punch EV, starts at Rs 9.69 lakh, with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option at Rs 6.49 lakh. Other competitors include the Citroen e-C3 at Rs 12.90 lakh, the Tata Nexon EV at Rs 12.49 lakh, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV at Rs 13.89 lakh. Upcoming models like the Bridger EV will also enter this segment.
Interior details and powertrain specifications for the new Hyundai SUV have not been disclosed. The vehicle is likely to use the E-GMP (K) platform. Manufacturing may take place at Hyundai’s new plant in Talegaon, near Pune. The launch is expected either later this year or by 2027.

CarBike 360 Says
Hyundai’s new compact electric SUV marks a focused push into India’s booming sub‑4‑meter and compact EV space, directly targeting the likes of the Tata Nexon EV and Punch EV. With India‑centric design, competitive pricing, and Hyundai’s strong service network, it has the potential to become a mainstream choice for urban buyers looking to switch to electric without compromising on features or practicality.
