MG Motor has started production of its second electric vehicle in India, the highly anticipated MG Comet EV.

MG Motor has commenced the production of its second electric vehicle, the Comet EV, for the Indian market. The auto manufacturer has released an image of the Comet EV, offering a first glimpse of the model that is scheduled to launch on Indian roads next week.
The Comet EV, which is based on the widely popular Air EV developed by Chinese partner Wuling, is set to be officially unveiled by MG Motor on April 19. As India's smallest electric car, the Comet EV will compete with other affordable EVs, such as the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen E C3.
The upcoming MG Comet EV is built on the GSEV platform and is designed to offer a spacious and versatile ride for city dwellers, according to MG Motor. The electric vehicle will feature a sturdy steel frame to ensure structural safety, as well as airbags for passengers.
Biju Balendran, the Chief Operating Officer of MG Motor India, expressed his commitment to providing innovative and sustainable mobility solutions with the new Comet EV. Balendran further stated that the company aims to deliver a futuristic and practical urban EV with enjoyable driving features. As the first Comet rolls off the production line, MG Motor is thrilled to welcome the start of a new era of EVs in India.
MG Motor has been generating buzz ahead of the official launch of its upcoming electric car. The automaker has provided a sneak peek of the vehicle through two images that showcase the dual screens on the dashboard, as well as the Apple iPod-inspired steering wheel controls. The highly anticipated MG Comet EV will feature two 10.25-inch digital screens, one for the instrument console and the other for the infotainment system. These floating units will also come with customizable graphics.
As MG Motor's most affordable electric vehicle in India, the Comet EV will be a significant addition to the automaker's EV lineup, which already includes the ZS EV electric SUV launched in 2020. Reports suggest that the Comet EV will be equipped with a 17.3 kWh battery pack, offering an estimated range of approximately 250 km on a single charge.
According to recent reports, the upcoming MG Comet EV is expected to feature two driving modes - Normal and Sport. The Normal mode is likely to offer a more relaxed and efficient driving experience, while the Sport mode will provide a more exhilarating drive with improved acceleration and throttle response. In addition to the driving modes, it has been suggested that the Comet EV's top speed will be limited to 100 kmph, which is a common restriction for electric vehicles in India.
This speed limit is intended to help conserve battery life and extend the vehicle's range. By balancing performance and efficiency, the MG Comet EV promises to be an appealing option for Indian drivers looking to transition to electric vehicles.
