The details about this Renault EV were unveiled in the Capital Markets Day event for Renault Group’s new Ampere EV spin-off firm.

Renault Twingo to Be the Most Affordable Renault EV

Luca de Meo, Renault Group CEO, described the new Twingo as a silver bullet for sustainability mobility and a key project in the quest for offering affordable EVs in the market. The committed launch of this electric car is in 2026, and it will be designed and developed in Europe. According to Meo’s statement, the Renault Twingo will be capable of matching its Chinese rivals in pricing and performance. The carmaker has also hinted to take help from outside partners to develop this new generation EV.

De Meo stated that the hatchback will cost 50% less to produce than a C-segment SUV. To support this claim, he added that the increased focus on software-driven platforms would require fewer parts and materials, reducing the overall production cost for the vehicle. Renault only provided a few details about the New Twingo, making it a fit-for-purpose urban vehicle with no compromise.

Renault Ampere

During the event, the carmaker also launched Ampere, an independent company within the Renault Group. The company will design, engineer, manufacture, and market EVs in Europe.

However, all designed and developed models will be sold under Renault’s brand name. Apere will work to maintain price parity between EV and ICE vehicles and focus on B-segment and C-segment models using existing EV platforms from the Renault Group.

It will focus on developing ‘Software-Defined Vehicles’ (SDV) to ensure the new vehicle design requires fewer parts, resulting in significant cost savings. De Meo hinted that the upcoming Renault EVs will be equipped with advanced technological solutions and infotainment, targeting tech-hungry buyers.

Moreover, Ampere will develop two EVs for Alpine, a performance brand of Renault Group, and the new Nissan Micra for an alliance partner of the company. Ampere also aims to develop a new global C-segment electric SUV for Renault’s third alliance partner, Mitsubishi.

Brand’s Existing Entry-Level Electric Car, Renault Kwid EV

While the launch of the new Twingo will happen in 2026, the carmaker already has its affordable and entry-level electric car, the Renault Kwid EV, in some South American markets.

There is a rare chance that Renault will launch its Twingo EV in India. However, Renault-Nissan has hinted to offer A-segment EVs in India in the coming years.
