Sub 4m SUV Sales March 2026: Tata Punch Leads, Segment Grows 8.87 Percent YoY
India's sub 4-metre SUV segment saw an 8.87% YoY sales rise in March 2026, led by Tata Punch and Nexon. Kia Sonet posted the highest growth among top models, while Maruti Brezza saw a slight decline.

The sub 4-metre SUV segment in India recorded strong growth in March 2026. Total sales reached 1,22,710 units, marking an 8.87% year-on-year increase from 1,12,714 units in March 2025. Month-on-month, the segment grew by 7.14%, showing sustained demand in this competitive category.

Top Selling Models and Growth
Tata Motors led the segment with high sales for both Punch and Nexon. The Tata Punch, including its electric version, was the top-selling model with 20,977 units, up 18.42% YoY. The Tata Nexon, also including its EV variant, followed with 19,810 units, achieving a 21.04% YoY increase.
Maruti Suzuki's Brezza sold 16,130 units, a slight 2.51% decline YoY. However, the Maruti Fronx performed well, selling 15,540 units and growing 13.69% YoY. Among Korean brands, the Kia Sonet posted the highest growth among leading models, with sales rising 55.90% YoY to 12,012 units. The Hyundai Venue recorded 11,147 units, up 6.76% YoY, while the Hyundai Exter grew 9.78% YoY with 6,478 units sold.
Mahindra's XUV3XO, including its EV, sold 9,199 units, up 30.39% YoY. Renault Kiger saw a 55.38% YoY increase with 1,184 units, while the Maruti Jimny recorded the highest percentage growth at 151.34% YoY, though volumes were low at 656 units. In contrast, Skoda Kylaq sales dropped 12.33%, Toyota Taisor fell 18.83%, and Nissan Magnite declined 18.16% YoY. Kia Syros also saw a significant decrease in volumes.
Month-on-Month and OEM Performance

On a month-on-month basis, Tata Punch and Maruti Fronx both achieved double-digit growth. Kia Sonet posted a 23.20% MoM increase, while Hyundai Exter saw a sharp 54.24% MoM rise. Renault Kiger also jumped 68.90% MoM, though from a lower base. Maruti Brezza declined 9.70% MoM, and both Nissan Magnite and Kia Syros saw decreases.
By manufacturer, Tata Motors led with combined sales of 40,787 units in March 2026, up 19.68% YoY. This was driven by strong demand for Punch and Nexon across both ICE and EV variants. Maruti Suzuki followed with 32,326 units, a 6.07% YoY increase, supported by Brezza and Fronx. Hyundai posted 17,625 units, up 7.85% YoY, with steady sales from Venue and Exter. Kia's overall numbers dipped to 12,071 units, a 5.10% YoY decline, due to lower Syros sales despite Sonet's growth. Mahindra saw a 30.39% YoY increase with XUV3XO, while Renault also posted gains on a smaller base. Skoda, Toyota, and Nissan reported declines, reflecting challenges in the lower volume segment.
