Tata Motors has made headlines with the sales of its compact SUV Punch surpassing sales of 6 lakh within 4 years. With this achievement, Tata has set a new benchmark in the Indian automobile industry. Tata Punch, launched in October 2021, signifies the loyalty of the Indian automotive brand’s aspiration towards customers.

Tata introduced Punch as a subcompact SUV, and by 2024, the car had become one of the highest-selling passenger cars in India. In 2025, they surpassed the sales of 6 lakh units. With such achievement, the brand has also launched the “India ki SUV” campaign to signify the Punch’s leadership and the brand’s strong commitment to serving Indian customers.

Record-Breaking Milestone and Market Performance

Tata Motors Sets New Record with 6 Lakh Sales of Punch in Just 4 Years

Tata Punch has swiftly crossed the 6 lakh production milestone in under four years since its October 2021 debut, establishing itself as the fastest-selling SUV in India. This represents that Punch has emerged as a symbol of choice, reliability, and style. By sales figures, Tata Motors reshaped the contours of the Indian automotive landscape. The Punch’s appeal is underscored by impressive customer demographics:

  • 70% of ICE (internal combustion engine) Punch buyers are first-time car owners.
  • 25% of EV (electric vehicle) Punch buyers are women, drawn by its ease of driving and strong road presence.
  • Sales distribution: 24% from Tier 1 cities, 42% from Tier 2, and 34% from Tier 3 towns, reflecting penetration beyond major metros.

The Punch is available in petrol, CNG, and electric variants for Indian customers. The car has also received 5-star safety ratings from Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP—an attribute consistently highlighted by buyers when making their decision.

While looking at such immense sales figures, the Chief Commercial Officer of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, Vivek Srivatsa, said that “The Punch embodies the spirit of new India. Crossing the 6 lakh sales milestone is more than a production achievement. This is more than a celebration of numbers. It's a tribute to a product that made SUV attitude accessible to all, without ever compromising on substance.”

Tata Punch Facelift upgrade to be released in October 2025

The model’s unique positioning has resulted in tangible market outcomes. The Punch now accounts for 36% of Tata Motors’ total passenger vehicle sales and commands a 38% market share in the subcompact SUV segment in 2025.

Tata is not holding back; the brand has decided to release its facelift version by October 2025.

The design and dimensions would be carried over from the Punch EV. We might see an all-new Altroz-inspired two-spoke steering wheel with improved upholstery.

CarBike360 Says

Tata Motors’ achievement with the Punch is far more than a pure sales milestone. From the sales figures we can say that people have liked the car and the brand, which has evolved with consumer aspirations too. By consciously targeting new customer segments, focusing on safety, and launching accessible variants, Tata has redefined what compact SUVs offer in India.
