Upcoming Tata Punch rivals: Maruti and Hyundai Two new model

Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are set to introduce new models in the micro SUV segment to challenge the success of Tata Punch, which is currently the second-best-selling SUV from the domestic automaker in India.

The Maruti Fronx compact crossover will become available for purchase in April, while the new Hyundai micro SUV is expected to arrive in late 2023 or early 2024. Below are some essential details about the upcoming SUVs that will rival the Tata Punch.

Latest Hyundai Micro SUV

Hyundai is planning to launch a micro SUV (with the codename Ai3) that will be the most compact and cost-effective SUV from the automaker in India. It will have a larger size than the Hyundai Casper, which is already available for sale in the South Korean market. The overall dimensions of the Casper are 3595mm in length, 1595mm in width, and 1575mm to 1605mm in height. The specifications of the engine for the forthcoming Hyundai mini SUV are still undisclosed.

However, it is expected to be equipped with the same 1.0L naturally aspirated and 1.0L turbo petrol engines that are offered with the Casper. The former generates 76bhp with 95Nm of torque, while the latter produces 100bhp with 172Nm of torque.

Maruti Suzuki- Fronx

Maruti will release the Fronx model range in five variants: Sigma, Delta, Delta +, Zeta, and Alpha. Customers can choose from two engine alternatives, a new 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol Boosterjet and a 1.2L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol. The former generates a maximum power of 100bhp with 147.6Nm, while the latter delivers 90bhp with 113Nm of torque.

The new Maruti compact SUV will be offered with three transmission options, including a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT, and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. As for features, the Maruti Fronx comes with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, a six-speaker sound system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a heads-up display, a 360-degree camera, and other amenities.
