BMW i5 production starts in Germany and about to launch in India in 2024

The BMW i5, a much-awaited offering in the electric vehicle segment, is generating significant excitement as a key product from the esteemed German automaker. Positioned between the i4 and i7 in BMW's all-electric portfolio, the i5 is set to make its global debut, and India is eagerly anticipating its launch next year.

Currently, the electric sedan has commenced production at BMW's sprawling facility in Dinglfing, Germany, the largest in Europe.

Distinctive Features and Powertrain

The BMW i5, a pure electric version of the new BMW 5 Series sedan, bears the eDrive40 nomenclature. It boasts an impressive electric range of up to 475 kilometres on a single charge, making it a compelling option for eco-conscious buyers.

With 335 bhp of peak power under the hood, the i5 eDrive40 can accelerate from 0 to 96 kmph in a brisk 5.7 seconds, channelling its power to the rear wheels.

International markets will also witness the i5 M60 variant, boasting an even more powerful 592 bhp peak power, enabling it to dash from 0 to 96 kmph in a mere 3.7 seconds, aided by an all-wheel-drive system.

Advanced Technology and Connectivity

Inside the cabin, the BMW i5 offers a plethora of advanced features, many of which are empowered by the automaker's cutting-edge OS 8.5 software. The sedan immediately captures attention with a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, creating an immersive and futuristic driving experience.

On par with some Tesla electric cars, the i5 grants owners access to streaming services and the ability to play video games when parked. Notably, the BMW i5 comes equipped with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), including a hands-free driver assistance feature.
