VW Group is very aggressive with their India 2.0 strategy. The German conglomerate will be launching their much awaited compact SUV VW Taigun on March 24th 2021. A few days back i.e. on March 18th, VW’s sister brand Skoda introduced their contender for this category as Skoda Kushaq. Once launched the VW Taigun will rival Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Renault Duster, and Nissan Kicks.
This segment has become a lot hotter than before as the best selling South Korean duos were waiting for a real contender to fight off and steal their market share. Nonetheless, Creta and Seltos have been pioneering the charts due to their extreme value for money propositions and features that Indians actually want to invest in. Not just Taigun, VW has some more serious plans for India in their India 2.0 strategy. VW is calling it SUVW strategy which will underpin 4 new SUVs from the brand to cater to different sets of audiences. As per the Brand head of the company, Mr. Ashish Gupta, this strategy will offer its loyal customers more options to upgrade within the VW itself which earlier was missing. The 4 vehicles under this plan include Taigun, T-Roc, Tiguan 5 seater and Tiguan Allspace 7 seater. All these vehicles will be launched in a stepped manner however, VW will be focussing more on establishing Taigun in 2021. The segment in which they are tapping with this vehicle is called A0 and the prices may fall between Rs 10 to 18 lakhs.
In terms of powertrains and platform, Taigun will share the basics with Skoda Kushaq. It will come with two petrol engine options. The first one is a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with 115PS of power and 215Nm of torque. The second engine is a 1.5-litre turbo petrol unit that’s good for 150PS of power and 250Nm of torque. What do you think about this SUV? Should you have been planning for an A0 segment compact SUV, which car would have gotten your interest, Creta or Taigun? Let know in the comments below.
