After several teasers, Hyundai has officially unveiled the much-awaited Exter SUV for the Indian market, providing the first look at its exterior design and revealing the available trim options and powertrain options. Interested buyers can now book the Exter for a nominal sum of Rs 11,000.
In terms of powertrain options, the Exter will be available with a 1.2-litre engine in both petrol and CNG variants. With bookings now open, customers can secure their Exter SUV by paying the token amount of Rs 11,000.
A 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is also offered on the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, i20, and Venue, will be an option for the Exter. Although the manufacturer hasn't disclosed the Exter's output, anticipate it to produce a similar 83 horsepower and 114 Nm of torque.
The engine will be paired with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox, according to Hyundai. Hyundai will offer a factory-installed CNG kit on the Exter at launch, much like it does on the Nios and the Aura. In actuality, the Exter is built on the same foundation as the latter two.
Five trim levels of the Exter will be available: EX, S, SX, SX(O), and the highest-spec SX(O) Connect. The top-end trim's suffix implies that connected car technologies will be included as standard.
Even though Hyundai has only just unveiled the outside, recent spy photos of the SUV being tested in South Korea already showed off the finished look. The India-specific model is essentially the same as the model spotted abroad. In addition, Hyundai has stated that the Exter will be the first vehicle to be sold in India in a new exterior paint colour named "Ranger Khaki."
The Exter adheres to Hyundai's Parametric design language with boxy dimensions and an upright attitude, like many other Hyundai cars in India. It has a split headlight configuration with LED Daytime Running Lamps in the shape of an H. A large chin with a faux silver skid plate and a wide, contrasting black grille is also added to the front fascia.
The Exter's square appearance is accentuated in profile by Hyundai's smallest SUV's round and slightly flared wheel arches and thick cladding across the length of the vehicle. Roof rails, elegant dual-tone alloy wheels, a textured C-pillar finish, and dual-tone paint options with a floating roof effect are all available.
Hyundai has not yet shown the Exter's back appearance, but prior spy photos suggested an upright tailboard, a shark fin antenna and a tiny built-in spoiler placed directly over the rear glass. The rear bumper is tall and flat, has a dual-tone finish, and has a noticeable skid plate. The tail lamps also include LED lighting components with an H pattern.
A price announcement for the Exter is anticipated from Hyundai sometime in late July or early August of this year. The SUV, which will sit below the Venue, will be the least expensive model offered by the company in India. Its primary competitors in the Indian market will be the well-liked Tata Punch and Citroen C3.
