The Assam Minister of Transport, Mr. Parimal Suklabaidya, has recently announced the launch of "Baayu-Clean Air Movement," India's pioneering app-based electric bike taxi service. This initiative aims to not only enhance air quality but also foster employment opportunities within the state of Assam.

Baayu: Transforming Transportation Dynamics

Baayu, an application-based electric bike taxi service, is a brainchild of the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC). This sustainable and futuristic transportation model represents a collaborative effort between the ASTC and Bikozee Ecotech, a local startup. Mr. Parimal Suklabaidya, the visionary Assam Minister of Transport, spearheads this innovative mobility solution.

In a historic stride towards sustainable mobility, Baayu stands as India's first app-based electric and decentralized bike taxi service. The introduction of this service aligns with the commitment of both the government and Bikozee Ecotech to revolutionize transportation by embracing eco-friendly practices. The integration of Baayu's services with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) further exemplifies its forward-looking approach.

Support from NITI Aayog: Shoonya Zero Pollution Mobility Campaign

Acknowledging the importance of Baayu in promoting pollution-free mobility, the initiative has garnered support from NITI Aayog's Shoonya Zero Pollution Mobility Campaign. The comprehensive approach of providing electric vehicles, technology platforms, training, skill development, and insurance reflects the commitment to a sustainable and zero-emission transportation model.

Economic Impact: Employment Generation and Cost Savings

Baayu's implementation is poised to make a significant economic impact in Assam. The initiative is expected to generate nearly 5000 employment opportunities by providing licenses in accordance with the Assam Aggregator rules 2022. Furthermore, the government's efforts to transition to zero-emission bike taxis are projected to save an estimated 29,000 tons of carbon emissions annually, resulting in a substantial Rs 73 crore reduction in fuel costs.

As Baayu-Clean Air Movement takes center stage in Assam's transportation landscape, it not only sets a precedent for sustainable mobility but also exemplifies the potential for public-private partnerships to drive positive environmental and economic change.
