Check out the success of MG Motor in the Indian market and the unique MG e-Shield package, ensuring a hassle-free ownership experience.

MG Motor, a prominent player in the Indian automobile market, has launched its second electric vehicle (EV) in the country, the MG Comet EV. This offering comes after the success of their first electric car, the ZS EV, which was introduced in 2020.
Priced competitively, the MG Comet EV aims to attract eco-conscious consumers with its enticing features and unique ownership package. In this analysis, we delve into the details of the MG Comet EV, including its pricing, features, and the comprehensive MG e-Shield ownership package.
The MG Comet EV is available in three variants: Pace, Play, and Plus, each catering to different customer preferences. The base variant, Pace, is priced at Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Play variant commands a slightly higher price of Rs 9.28 lakh. The top-of-the-line Plus trim comes with a price tag of Rs 9.98 lakh (ex-showroom). It is important to note that these prices are introductory and apply to the first 5,000 bookings.
MG Motor has introduced a unique buy-back program for the MG Comet EV, further enhancing its appeal. Under this program, customers have the option to return the vehicle after three years and receive 60 per cent of its ex-showroom value. This initiative provides peace of mind to buyers, knowing that they have the flexibility to upgrade or explore other options in the future.
The MG Comet EV has gained significant traction in the market since its launch, with first-month sales reaching an impressive 1,184 units. This sales figure solidifies its position as the second best-selling MG car in India for the previous month.
In terms of overall sales performance, MG Motor India witnessed its best-selling models in June 2023 as the Hector and Hector Plus variants, recording a total of 2,170 units sold. Although this represented a 10 per cent decline compared to the previous year, these models remain popular choices among Indian car buyers. Following closely on the sales chart are the Astor, ZS EV, and Gloster models, demonstrating the diverse portfolio offered by MG Motor.
The MG Comet EV showcases a modern and eye-catching exterior design. Noteworthy elements include an LED light bar, a strip connecting the outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs), and a stylish LED tail lamp. The car rides on elegant 12-inch alloy wheels, further enhancing its overall appeal.
Remarkably, the MG Comet EV is currently the smallest electric vehicle available in the Indian market. Its dimensions measure under 3 meters in length, 1,640mm in height, and 1,505mm in width, with a wheelbase of 2,010mm.
The MG Comet EV offers five vibrant colour options to suit various tastes and preferences. These include dual-tone options such as Apple Green + Starry Black and Candy White + Starry Black, as well as individual colour choices like Apple Green, Candy White, Aurora Silver, and Starry Black.
Moving to the interior, the MG Comet EV boasts a spacious cabin that follows the BICO concept of "Big Inside, Compact Outside." It comfortably accommodates four passengers with a 50:50 split arrangement for the second-row seats. The cabin incorporates two 10.25-inch screens, comprising an all-digital driver display unit and an infotainment system that supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Additional features include a 2-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, three USB ports, and the i-SMART system with over 55 connected car features and more than 100 voice commands. The MG Comet EV prioritizes safety with keyless entry, dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a reverse camera, and sensors.
Powering the MG Comet EV is a 17.3 kWh battery pack, which boasts an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. The single electric motor generates 42 horsepower and 110 Nm of torque, delivering a satisfying driving experience. According to the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), the MG Comet EV offers a claimed range of 230 kilometres on a single charge.
However, real-world conditions may result in a range of approximately 170-180 kilometres. The vehicle achieves a top speed of 100 km/h and exhibits an estimated running cost of Rs 519 per 1,000 kilometres, as evaluated by MG Motor.
To enhance the ownership experience, MG Motor presents the MG e-Shield ownership package with the Comet EV. This comprehensive package covers repairs and service costs, ensuring that owners can enjoy hassle-free maintenance and peace of mind.
Furthermore, customers can benefit from the 3-3-3-8 package, which includes a 3-year or 1 lakh km warranty, 3 years of Roadside Assistance (RSA), and the first 3 scheduled services at no cost. The package also incorporates an 8-year or 1 lakh 20 thousand km warranty specifically for the 17.3 kWh Li-ion battery. Additionally, buyers have the option to choose from over 80 extended warranty and service packages, starting from Rs 5,000.
