It was reported in 2020 that Maruti Suzuki is working on a compact SUV codenamed YTB which will be based on its best seller Baleno. Few days back, the upcoming vehicle's spy shots were discovered.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has been so popular that it outsold the brand's previous bestseller Swift. It came as a premium choice over Maruti Swift and grabbed it's position in Nexa showroom.Recently, a spy shot has emerged online that shows a Nexa Baleno based SUV is being developed by the manufacturer. Sighting the growing demand of Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite, Maruti Suzuki seems to be aggressive with this segment and will probably launch the new vehicle soon.Nissan Magnite came as a game changer for the Japanese brand and is selling in huge numbers. It currently has a waiting period as long as 6 months. On the other hand, Renault Kiger's waiting period has reached 2 months and is expected to move further. Both the cars are available with two petrol engine options. Their on-paper specs state 1-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with 71 PS/96Nm output and a 1-litre turbo petrol with 99PS/160Nm output.Maruti Suzuki Baleno SUV will be tapping this segment with its tried and tested 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine which is currently powering other vehicles under the brand as well. It churns out 83PS of power and 113Nm of torque while the DualJet version has a better output of 90PS. We expect the same engines to power the upcoming SUV as well. The Indo Japanese conglomerate already has a compact SUV in their portfolio i.e. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza which competes with Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV300. To strengthen the blurred line between these SUVs and the ones from Nissan and Renault, Maruti will introduce the forthcoming compact SUV below Vitara Brezza. Expect it to roll out from Nexa dealerships soon. With Nissan and Renault facing challenges in fulfilling the current demands, do you think it is a big opportunity for Maruti to tap into this segment?
