Suzuki Motorcycle India's Plant Forced to Shut Down Due to Cyber Attack

Suzuki Motorcycle India halted operations at its motorcycle manufacturing plants owing to a cyberattack on systems. According to the sources, the manufacturing process has been stopped since May 10, and it's anticipated that the company missed the production of over 20,000 vehicles.

The company has postponed its annual supplier conference scheduled for next week, explaining the "unprecedented business requirement" as part of handling the situation.

In the given email response, the Suzuki Motorcycle India spokesperson mentioned that the company is aware of the incident and has promptly reported it to a concerned government department. Currently, the matter is being investigated, and the company can not provide any further details due to security reasons, he added.

However, the spokesperson did not mention when the production of two-wheels will resume again in India and the origin of the cyberattack.

Suzuki Motorcycle was the fifth largest two-wheeler manufacturer, with a production capacity of million units in FY2023. India is the company's biggest automotive market for Suzuki outside Japan, and the same for its sister company Maruti Suzuki. Suzuki Motor Japan utilizes its India-based manufacturing plant as a major export center, contributing about 20% of exports to major international markets.

India is one of the fastest-growing two-wheeler markets and contributes about 50% of Suzuki Motor Corp's global output. The company saw increased production of over 2.2 lakh units in the last financial year. In contrast, almost 85% of units were manufactured in India-based plants.

Suzuki Motorcycle owns nearly 5% market share in India, which is a highly competitive market for two-wheeler manufacturers. Further, the scooters from this two-wheeler manufacturer accounted for 90% of its total output in the financial year 2023, with a market share of 14%.

For FY24, Suzuki Motor aims to increase worldwide output by 4.4%, and its India-based manufacturing plant will be utilized as a major contributor to meet the projected goal.
